How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
Ken Taylor helped revolutionize the reading of the Bible by his paraphrase editions. Millions of people have benefited from his vision and work.
Ken was a wonderful friend, and I loved him in Christ with all my heart, even though I did not often see him.
I am praying that his entire family will feel God's special grace, strength, and love.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
Dr. James C. Dobson, founder and chairman of Focus on the Family, voiced great appreciation for the far-reaching contributions his longtime friend Dr. Taylor made to the cause of Christ worldwide: “Not only did he demonstrate a deep commitment to God’s Word and an unwavering devotion to the Lord, but he also evidenced a desire to help families live according to the principles laid out in Scripture. His impact on the kingdom simply cannot be overstated.”
Dr. Dobson also credits Dr. Taylor with playing an integral role in helping to launch Focus on the Family. Recalling his efforts to get the fledgling ministry off the ground, he spoke of Taylor’s generous response to his vision for an organization geared toward preserving families: “I asked if he and Tyndale would consider underwriting our efforts, and he provided a grant of $35,000.00, which allowed us to get Focus underway. We may never have made it on the air if it hadn’t been for the generous support we received from him at that juncture. I loved him deeply and I know he’ll be sorely missed by his colleagues, friends and family members,” Dobson stated. “He has touched millions of people, and I’m certain that his legacy of faith and his labor on behalf of the Gospel will continue to live on for many years to come.”

How the Living Bible has affected me...
The Living Bible paraphrase has done more to revitalize and transform the humdrum Christian experience of countless thousands of people through the years – and I have been one of them. It has meant more to me personally than any other translation and has been my constant companion and reference guide.
We have been privileged at BGEA to offer to our listeners free of charge each edition that has been published from the earliest days, and it has stimulated our thinking and understanding of the Word of God immeasurably. I humbly express to all the Taylor family and to Tyndale House Publishers our heartfelt thanks for the life and dedication of Ken, who under God has brought this to pass.
What rejoicing in heaven that he is finally “home.” He has heard the words of his blessed Savior, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.” May all of us who come behind him be found faithful and may the fire of Ken’s dedication continue to light our way.
In gratitude and thankfulness and prayers for each of you on this memorable day of celebration,

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
It is not a stretch whatsoever to emphatically state that had Dr. Taylor not invited my father, Bob Hawkins, Sr., to join him in the basement of his home as one of the very first employees of Tyndale House Publishers, Harvest House Publishers would not exist today! For as a result of the incredible experience Ken Taylor gave Bob Hawkins to market the Living Bible in those early Tyndale days, my father became inspired to start his own venture, which in turn has given me the opportunity to spend the last 24 years proclaiming Jesus Christ as the answer to every human need through the publishing of thousands of Christian books under the Harvest House logo!
Yes, Ken Taylor paraphrased the Living Bible and is the founder of Tyndale House, one of the largest publishing companies of Christian material in the world, but his vision has led to the development of so much more. Only God knows the extent of this gracious man's influence upon the kingdom of God!

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
My first job in Christian publishing, working alongside my high school friend, Mark Taylor, in his dad's garage, was packing and shipping Living Letters. Most people see the evidence of those early efforts in the wonderful legacy and fruits of Dr. Taylor's Bible work and that of Tyndale Publishing House. But for me, his life and work have always served as regular reminders of what is most important in Christian publishing. I am forever grateful to have experienced his presence up close and personal.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
Ken was a foundation stone in the The Seed Company. He was one of the first people I consulted with when God gave me the vision for such a ministry. When we first discussed the idea of providing help and training to enable Christians in other countries to translate the Bible in their own language, his eyes lit up and a smile came on his face. I realized this had been Ken's own vision for a long time. We became partners in ministry. God used him in a wonderful way to advace the cause of Bible translation around the world. His efforts have resulted in over 200 languages now having at least some portion of the Bible in their own language. He was a friend who was always available to provided the three things the ministry needed--wisdom, work, and wealth. He did this right to the end of his life. I will miss him greatly.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
Ken Taylor was one of the most grace-filled leaders our industry has ever known. Not only did he enable millions of people to read and understand the Bible better for themselves, he also played a key role as the visionary founder of CBA. Our industry has suffered a great loss, but Heaven has experienced a great gain!

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
I had heard of Ken Taylor and had appreciated The Living Bible. In fact, I distributed hundreds of copies of Reach-Out and The Way in my Campus Life ministry. Then I met him, the man behind the work, and I was impressed with his gentle spirit, humility, and sincerity. Years later, I still use those words to describe Ken, but I would add faithfulness and integrity. Each time I would run into Ken in the halls of Tyndale, he would ask, "What are you working on," and he really wanted to know, taking a genuine interest in me and Livingstone. My dad and Ken had known each other at Wheaton College, and when my father died, Ken was very kind and wrote an encouraging and comforting note. I am so thankful that I could know this man of God, and I miss him.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
The tattered copy of "The Bible in Pictures for Little Eyes" that I read to my two girls, Beverly and Barbara, in the 1960s, is still on my bookshelf - easily accesible for grandchildren and others to share.
Many of the pages/stories were memorized; and I'm sure they remain in the hearts of my daughters - for which I'm thankful.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
In the early 60s I was stationed at Maxwell Air Force Base, in Montgomery, Alabama. Billy Graham came to town and held a crusade and gave out to all who wanted them the "Living Letters" produced by Dr. Taylor. I got them, took them to work with me and read them every moment I got a chance.
I was a Christian and had been since 13 years of age but had never gotten into the Bible, mostly because it was hard to understand. But the Living Letters did it for me and I have been an avid reader since then. I presently have Living Letters, The Living Bible, and the New Living Translation is at my bedside at all times. I became an elder in the Valley Christian Church in Bullhead City, AZ. Four years later had a heart attack and resigned my eldership and moved close to our daughter here in Idaho. I presently search out everything I can find on church history, and the Reformation, and the making of our Bible. My love for Christianity and the Bible today is all due to Dr. Taylor's "Living Letters."

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
Dr. Ken Taylor's life and ministry has been one of the most significant influences on our lives. Even from my grade school days I thought I would go into Christian bookselling. After attending Multnomah School of the Bible, I worked for Unilit in Portland Oregon -- a division of Tyndale House Publishers. Dr. Taylor had a vision of how to strengthen the entire Christian bookselling industry, and worked it out through Unilit and Unilit's Development Services Department -- assisting retailers through distribution, but also services such as inventory selection and management, store layout, fixtures, store signs, a bookselling manual, assistance in opening new stores, counsel for existing stores. I had the privilege of being a part of both Unilit and Development Services, and working out his vision.
Now Beth, my wife, and I are in Nigeria, and our ministry is again patterned to a large extent after that same vision -- helping to strengthen the Christian bookselling industry in Africa, using many of the same services that Dr. Taylor envisioned, and providing the Word of God in understandable form.
We have also been influenced by his prayers -- both his example of praying for the Tyndale staff daily, and by his prayers for us personally.
His passion for making God's Word available has also been a continuing example and encouragement to us.

How the Living Bible has affected me...
It was in March of 1973, right after I received the Lord Jesus Christ as my Savior at the age of seven, that my parents, I think, bought me a copy of "The Children's Living Bible." This, after a living relationship with God, is the best gift I ever received. The introductory page suggested reading the Gospel of John first, and then reading the whole Bible through, a chapter or two a day. This is exactly what I did, and it is the primary way that I got to know God.
Reading The Children's Living Bible through was also the means that God used to instill in me a yearning to play my part in God's work in the world today. Even to a nine-year-old, it is obvious that we're living between Acts and Revelation today. I prayed that God would use me, too, as he had used the characters recorded in the Bible. It was through reading the Spire Comics version of God's Smuggler that I realized that the Acts of the Apostles are still continuing on today. From that moment, I wanted to be a missionary.
It was as I neared the completion of a bachelor's degree in 1989 that the Lord confirmed his call on my life as a missionary. Since 1994, I have been serving with Wycliffe Bible Translators as a language surveyor, helping to identify people groups that still don't have access to God's word in an understandable form.
Dr. Taylor's work has left an indelible impression on my life, for which I am eternally grateful. I also appreciate Tyndale House's continuing support of Wycliffe Bible Translators.

How the Living Bible has affected me...
My dad, who died a few years ago, owned a Christian bookstore in Austin, TX, when I was in high school. We sold lots of Living Bibles, and I saw lots of people come to the Lord through your father's writings. My dad was a lot like your dad, always on the cutting edge of change, and lots of people looked at him as a rebel, but I see now that our dads were just listening and obeying what God was telling them to do. Thank God for Christian parents! I'm praying for your peace. Your dad is at peace!

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
From the time in the mid-60s, when as a student at Wheaton College I invited Dr. Taylor to come to speak to the Ministerial Fellowship about how God was leading him to write parts of the New Testament into a "readable" language, until approximately three years ago when I had an opportunity to speak with him at College Church in Wheaton, I was impressed with his simple devotion to Christ and his humble spirit.

How Tyndale House products have affected me...
It has blessed me personally and blessed the work to which I am called to see a Christian publishing house reinvest the profits from their products in other ministries in various ways and means. In our case, a grant from the Tyndale Foundation enabled the Italian Bible Institute to purchase a significant number of additional volumes for our library. This investment enabled us to receive accreditation from the European Evangelical Accrediting Association, which has opened additional doors of opportunity for ministry and further education to our students.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
Since I am a missionary and work in camping here in Spain, the news came late to us, but we wanted to add our memory to the list. The Lord blessed us, more in his later years, with the friendship and prayers of Dr. Taylor. My father, Walter Frank, had known him long before I, but after about 18 years in Spain, the Lord brought us into contact. I so appreciate his sincere interest in the work we were doing. I never felt he was meeting with "just another missionary." He was genuinely interested in what the Lord was doing here in Spain through the team here for His glory. So, without getting too lengthy, I just want to thank the Lord for the few years God allowed us to make progress together in His kingdom. All glory to our Lord!

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
I had not thought of The Living Bible until I read the article about the passing of Dr. Taylor. My grandparents were my inspiriation and my rock. They have also gone on to see the Lord. They had a copy of The Living Bible in their home. My grandmother read from it often. I really wish that I knew what happened to it, but it brings a desire to go and get a copy of my own.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
I was ten years old attending the CBA conference in Dallas with my father, and they were giving out Jubilee editions (in celebration of 25 million copies) of The Living Bible.
I met Dr. Taylor at the Tyndale booth - and though I was only ten, he greeted me like I was the only one in the room. He flipped through my new Bible and found a verse for me which he wrote in the front of my Bible - Psalm 119:9
"How can a young man stay pure? By reading your Word and following its rules."
25 years later, I still cherish this Bible and will pass it on to one of my children.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
As I read God’s Word, I am often reminded of how our Lord gave to people needing His time, His touch or His testimony. From the Samaritan woman at the well to the tax collector in the sycamore tree, Jesus didn’t view those who came to Him as interruptions of His day. People in need were the heartbeat of His day ... His ministry opportunities.
In a similar manner, my fond memories of Dr. Ken Taylor reflect those qualities of Jesus. New to the Bible publishing industry, I began publishing The Rainbow Study Bible in 1986 and was already familiar with the story of how God had guided Dr. Taylor to impact millions of lives through the development of The Living Bible and Tyndale House Publishers.
At my first opportunity I sought out Dr. Taylor. I needed some of his time, some of his wisdom. And he graciously sat down with me though I knew he was very busy that day. Dr. Taylor was kind, humble and not at all in a hurry. I think we struck a cord with each other that day. In 1989 Rainbow Studies International was blessed to publish The Living Bible Edition of The Rainbow Study Bible.
As the years passed, we had several more visits at various conventions and functions. Ken Taylor took time for me, and God used that time to bless countless others. Now I am very much aware that as people come in and out of my life, they are not interruptions--they are my ministry opportunities.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
I first encountered Ken Taylor on the new book rack of Menlo Park Presbyterian Church's library when in high school. The Living Bible hook on the cover attracted me, since I grew up reading it for my daily devotionals. y this time, my Living Bible was well-worn and tattered from extensive use.
As I read Dr. Taylor's autobiography, I noticed the chapter about his time at Wheaton College (IL). Through my admiration of Ken Taylor's life along with a number of other Wheaton associated people, it seemed that the Lord conspired to send me to Dr. Taylor's alma mater.
Early in my time at Wheaton, a friend who worked at Tyndale House gave me Dr. Taylor's phone number. Nervously, I called to see if he would be willing to get together with this student who had read, and had been influenced by his autobiography. To my delighted surprise, he was willing to do so.
Over the past dozen or so years, Dr. Taylor has gotten together with me maybe two score (40ish) times or so, usually for lunch. Whether at Carol's Garden, the Wheaton cafeteria, the Taylor home or one of the few times he let me treat at Macaroni Grill and Applebee's, I cherished the times we spent together. He was always open to my inviting friends and family on these meals, which he usually insisted on treating--typical of his generosity.
I frequently sought out his advice, and it is astonishing how available he made himself in spite of his huge family and the lives he touched worldwide. He called me at times, wrote letters, and gave a complimentary Tyndale books he thought would be particularly helpful. He also sent the winsome "Have a Good (or is it Nice) Day" for free in bulk quantities to help equip my evangelistic efforts.
I look up to his towering humility and modesty, his lavish generosity, his zeal in sharing God's Word and the Gospel, his gentle wisdom, his faithful intercession, and his numerous leadership qualities, too numerous to conveniently list here. He was more of a grandfather in the Lord to me than both of my deceased grandfathers combined. I am honored to have counted him as a dear mentor.
Not knowing his Homegoing until later, I had left a voicemail in his office around that time to see if we could get together during my next trip to the area ... only to get an e-mail from a close friend that Dr. Taylor had already gone to his ultimate Home. The whole rest of the evening was set aside for mourning, remembering, and praying--at once a celebration of his great life as well as a tearful farewell.
Within the past year, I had given to pieces of correspondence to him in which I poured out my heart to him--knowing that the time may be short. While I'm glad I did so, like many, many others, I truly miss him.
Dr. Taylor (I called him that to the end), I look forward to seeing you in Glory!

I had the wonderful opportunity to sit with Dr. Taylor in his office in Wheaton. What a humble, loving Christian brother who never looked at himself but pointed so many to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. He was a man willing to take a risk for Jesus! I still loved his attempt to push the alphabetical Bible because he saw people and wanted to meet a need. He will be missed in his vision for man.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
The day Dr. Taylor went to be with the Lord I was reading about the virtues of the righteous people of Psalm 1 in the NLT. They delight in the law of the Lord, mediatating on it day and night. They are trees planted by the riverbank bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither and they prosper in all they do. For the Lord watches over the path of the godly. When I received the sad news of our dear friend's passing, I could not help but immdiately reflect on these words and see his life in this Psalm. He had that kind of impact on me. And I thank the Lord for the privilege to have known him.

It was an unforgettable honor to me when I had the chance to visit Dr. Ken Tayler in person during a visit at Tyndale Publishers in the summer of 2004. And, it is and will continue to be a great honor for us, the Haenssler Publishing House (Germany), to hold the right and license to publish the New Living Translation in our German language. What a privilege to be able to read and understand the Bible and its Message, Jesus, because of this tool. God's blessings unto Mrs. Taylor, the family, and the whole publishing house.

How the Living Bible has affected me...
I was 17 and ready to choose my own religion. I decided to start by reading the New Testament to decide if I beileved the Christian tradition of my parents. I wandered into a Christian bookstore and explained to the owner that I just couldn't understand the version of the Bible I had. She wisely handed me a copy of REACH OUT, and I read it through. For the first time I discovered God spoke the same language I spoke! Somewhere between Matthew and Revelation I met and fell in love with Jesus. Years later, when my husband I were considering full-time Christian ministry, we were drawn to Wycliffe Bible Translators because of my own testimony that the Word of God in the language of the heart changes lives. May the Lord bring His Word to the more than 380,000 lives who do don't have the Scriptures in a language they undersand!

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
"Aunt Margaret" and all of the rest of the Taylor family,
How sad for us to have to say good-bye (though temporarily) to those we love so much. Although Mom and Dad were close to you, my first memories with your family began that first visit to 1515 East Forrest when I was 8 years old. I remember "Charlie" the talking parakeet and the fun of getting to know the family. The special times of many vacations at Long Lake and then at Dore are so precious. And what a privilege to sit at the fireside for devotions and hear what would become "Living Letters." I also remember the old limo that held the whole family and helping load boxes of "Living Letters" into the station wagon to take to the post office. Your whole family has made a permanent mark on my life. Thank you for being a part of our family.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
A few years ago when I visited Tyndale for the first time, I had the privilege to meet Dr. Taylor. I was so excited, and when I came back to Israel I promised my wife that one day we wiould take the whole family and meet with this great man of faith. A few years later, as we traveled to the USA with our children, we came again to Tyndale. We told our children that they were going to meet someone whom they had never seen but which they had "met" every evening before they went to sleep. They could not figure out how that could be until we came into Dr. Taylor office. Then they then realized that he was the man who wrote the Bible stories we used to read for them every day. We all learned so much from his stories, his work, and his personality! This was an exciting meeting. We have wonderful memories and also a good picture. We are so thankful to the Lord for His great mercies. He used Dr. Taylor in wonderful way for the benefit of many children all over the world - and also in Israel. We praise God and we would like to encourage you as you feel the absence of this great man. May the Lord give you comfort as we all know that our dear brother is now with the Lord Jesus whom he served faithfully all his life. May we all remember the legacy he left, and may we learn to be faithful and obedient to the Lord like he was.

How the Living Bible has affected me...
Dear family of Ken Taylor,
Greetings. I just wanted to share with you are few words. I came to Christ when I was a junior in high school. At the time a friend in Campus Life gave me a Living Bible. I remember being amazed that the Bible could be in such an understandable form. I read it almost every evening, something I had never done before.
Now, 25 years later, my wife and I celbrate our 21st year with Wycliffe Bible Translators. I've thought it a privalege to be a part of a group that brings the Word of God to people in that same, amazing form – easy to read and understand.
Thank you for your part in bringing God's Word to the people. God bless you all.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
I am thankful for the freshness of The Living Bible. I remember
seeing Ken three times around College Church in Wheaton, Illinois-
his home church. Margaret - his wife - blessed so many.
Ken's success goes back to his dad's prayers for God to touch
nations. This is mentioned in 'A Guided Tour,' Ken's autobiography. Ken's humility and fearlessness for his Lord Jesus
was amazing. Yet Margaret's willingness to let Ken travel so much gave Ken wings like an eagle to visit missionaries. You and I, though, have the same Lord and can impact nations also. Don't stop doing what you are doing for Christ. "Lord, help me to prefer obedience to making money."
Psalm 119:36, one of Ken's unforgettable favorite translations. June 24, 2005

How the Living Bible has affected me...
When I became a Christian, I felt culturally and linguistically estranged from the Church. I could not understand the KJV of the Bible and was constantly taught to "get into the Word" that was in a language that was hard for me. I actually considered leaving the Church because the academic and intellectual focus on the Word of God left me out. God breathed new life into me when I first read The Living Bible, and for the first time, the Word of God became alive to me. For the past 22 years, I have used the LB while ministering to alcoholics and addicts. For the past 9 years, I have used the LB in a ministry to international students. I suppose a defining moment for me was when I was sharing Christ with my dying auntie and reached across the hospital table for the Bible that was laying there. I felt a desperate need to read Romans 8 to my dying aunt. When I opened the Bible and began to read it, I found that it was the KJV, and the words made little sense to me or my aunt. In fact, it was the religiosity of the KJV and how Christians had used it in my aunt's life, that drove her from the Church. I was to see my aunt three days later, and I was going to bring her a LB to read. She passed into eternity before I could get back to her. I thank God for The Living Bible and Dr. Taylor's obedience to God in writing and publishing it. I have just gone out and purchased the NLT study Bible for a new class I'm starting with a group of students from Vietnam, Korea, China, and Japan, and I will share with them the story of how the LB came into being, through the vision and obedient work of a godly man. May God bless Dr. Taylor's family, as they grieve his loss and celebrate his entrance into the eternal presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. In Christ, I remain your brother and servant. How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
I started my career in religious publishing with Tyndale in the early 1980s. At the time, I was surprised how the president of the company, Dr. Taylor, would take time to greet me (a nobody!) and ask how I was doing. He encouraged and mentored me. More amazing was how that never changed, even though I left Tyndale in 1984. As our paths crossed, Dr. Taylor always remembered me (still a nobody!) and had the perfect, encouraging word for me at the moment. In a world of superficial people, Dr. Taylor was a loving, caring, compassionate man with amazing editorial and ministry gifts. Christ was revealed through him daily.

How the Living Bible has affected me...
I was abused spiritually, physically and sexually growing up and the King James Version was used to “okay” everything that was done to us. I grew up loving the Lord but hating the Bible, because it was used as a painful and unjust sword against me by my mentally ill mom.
I came into adulthood wanting to have daily devotions but hating to hold that King James version in my shaking hands,…fearing that I would be struck with lightening for my sins. I went through the things that adult abused people go through--horrid marriage, and so forth. It was my adulterous ex-husband that left me for another woman 20 years ago but left the greatest gift in the world. His copy of The Living Bible. I was cleaning things out and came across this in a stack of his books, most of which were worthless. I didn’t know what it was and got curious and started to read it. For the first time, here was a Bible that spoke of God’s love to me. Here was a version that I hadn’t memorized verses that struck terror into my soul. Here was a version that I had no previous experience with. This was going to be my fresh start…my gift from God. That heathen had left me the greatest gift in the world. God’s love in print. I spent the next several years inhaling the Bible according to Ken, as I used to call it. I understood it and it brought me such healing. Well it would take years of conversations to tell you of how much it has impacted my life and that of my seed--my three boys who are dyslexic and wouldn’t read the Bible either if all they had was the KJV. Needless to say it has been many years since that time in my life, but the ‘Bible according to Ken’ allowed me enough time and space to heal that I can now read and enjoy and understand many other versions of the Bible. I own a parallel Bible with four versions in it and love to compare them and dig for the meat and the understanding. But I have to say that I owe my healing and my life to Kenneth Taylor! I am crying as I write these words, thinking how seldom we get the opportunity to thank people that have made big impacts in our lives, because you lose track of them, or don’t have access to them, or don’t even realize the impact until too late.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
In 1969, our 18 year old daughter, Kathi, was returning home from a church youth camp with 3 other teenagers. They were involved in an accident and 3 of the kids were killed, including our daughter. In her possession was "Living Letters," the one she kept on her bedstand. It meant so much to her that she could read the Bible in understandable language. I have given many copies of The Living Bible to new believers. Thank you, Dr. Taylor.

How the Living Bible has affected me...
As a young Christian (at the age of 62!) I was determined to read the entire Bible - but I always got stuck somewhere. Then I discovered The Living Bible - it changed my life in that it gave me a real firm foundation for my faith and witness. My wife, Ines, coming from a Catholic background, had never read the Bible. She was so exited to be able to read God's Word in an idiom that she could understand! (English is not our native tongue.)
I was honored to be on the Board of LB until the merger with IBS, and to be invited to the home of Ken and Margaret several times. What a blessing each time!
Ken is now in the home that Jesus prepared especially for him. No more pain, no sorrow, no more tears, but with a new beautiful voice. I'm sure the LORD has a very special crown for him, having made the Word of God available, readable and fascinating to millions in virtually every language of the world. How I look forward to seeing Ken again someday!
My wife, Ines, joins me in wishing our sympathy to Margaret and their offspring. They know it is only a parting of time until they - and we - all meet again in the presence of our Lord Jesus.
Our love and appreciation.
We salute a great man of God.

How the Living Bible has affected me...
I was six years old when I received my "Bible in Pictures for Little Eyes" - a gift from my thoughtful big brother, Calvin, who was twenty-one and a new Christian himself. I loved the artwork and answering the questions from each story! Dr. Taylor blessed the children of the world with that Bible, and I was so fortunate to have recently purchased it for some special children in my life. I'm almost thirty-eight now and I still occasionally reach for my first Bible. Thanks to my wonderful parents, my brother, and that Bible, I grew up knowing Jesus and knowing that I am a child of God.
My parents and my brother have all gone to heaven, but I still have my memories and my "Little Eyes" Bible. God blessed the world with the life of Dr. Kenneth Taylor, and may God bless Dr. Taylor's family, today and always.

How the Living Bible has affected me...
To Mrs. Taylor,
Dear Aunty,
We appreciated your coming to be with us during the first Translator's get-together in India. It was very encouaging and we appreciated the gift of Bible set which you sent after you reached home.
We used the Bible in drafting the NT in the language we are working in.
We express our heartfelt sorrow in this time of bereavement.
With love,

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
May the Lord comfort Kenneth family at these sad moments. The departure of a beloved person is not so easy. What may be encouraging for all of us, and particularly for his family, is the great and positive impact of his life and his work on the lives of many generations of people. I was meditating this morning, and the author of the writing was saying that we must let God use our lives to impact other lives positively, even after our death, such as Timothy's mother and grandmother. I was touched by this meditation. This is what Kenneth has done. His life was a blessing and will continue to be a great blessing for many people. May God be glorified for the inestimable contribution of Kenneth Taylor to the Bible translation, and may he be an example for many.

How the Living Bible has affected me...
Dear the Taylor family,
We are a Korean couple who are Bible translators. We have finished translating His Word (NT) into a language of Central Asia this year.
We appreciated the author of The Living Bible during whole our project time. Every time we faced difficult passages to translate, we opened The Living Bible, and many times we got good ideas from that. We even didn't know the author's name, but we thanked and praised God for such a great translation. We are not native English speakers, and The Living Bible helped many non-native English speakers to understand His Word much better than any others. We are going to join another project soon, and we are sure that The Living Bible will help that project as well. This morning we show our great appreciation to Kenneth N. Taylor. We also want to be used like him as we translate His Word into other languages.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you......

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
I was an employee at Tyndale House Publishers for two years. I wasn't able to work directly with Dr. Taylor during this time, but I did have the privilege to stop by and speak with him on occasion. I can distinctly remember that every time I sat with him, he always ended our conversation with a prayer. I believe this example, along with a lifestyle of devotion and faithfulness, has made a huge impression on me. I praise God for providing me the opportunity to work alongside such a great example of Christ.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
As I child I used to fall asleep holding the KJV Bible to scare away bad dreams. I was a teenager when The Living Bible was first available, and it was the first Bible that I could actually read and understand. I read it cover to cover, and I no longer had to sleep with the KJV. The Word of God was finally in my heart because of the work of Dr. Taylor. I was privileged to meet Dr. Taylor and shake his hand at CBA many years ago. His humility was overwhelming to me. I am so thankful for his life and work.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
We, Markoses, working in a tranlation project in India, had an opportunity to spend some time with Ken and his wife. That was at the first tranlators' get together at Banalore in India in 1999.
We heard from him about his experiences as a translator and as a family man who lived for his wife and children and for GOD--with a BIG family of ten children. His passion for the Bible and for translation was always and is still an inspiration to me. His biography, "My Life a Guided Tour" that he sent from States was more revealing about his personal life and ministry. I thank God for this great visionary and his efforts, which are fruitful and continue to bear fruit in the coming days. We share the feelings of the Taylor family members for the gap that came in the absence of Ken. May God fill your hearts with his love and peace that surpasses everything.
Thank you for this privilege to write this note.
With regards love and prayers,

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
Dr. Taylor's first influence in my life goes back over 40 years, when in my late teens I received my first copy of Living Letters.
I was really excited at being able to understand the Bible more easily.
His influence continued as I used both his "Devotions and Stories for the Children's Hour" with my own children in teaching them God's principles.
My final connection to Dr. Taylor and his work began when I joined the Tyndale Family as an employee 23 years ago. I know I was meant to work at Tyndale since I'd prayed that God would block my getting the job if this was not where He wanted me to work. The first time, He did block it but a month later I received a call from Tyndale's personnel department that there was another opening. This time God did not block it and I started at Tyndale. My 3 sons were so excited it was as if I were going to the mission field, and in a way I was.
I appreciated Dr. Taylor's graciousness one summer when on the way with my 3 sons & my dad to our Moxon family reunion, our car broke down near Sawyer, MI. After my son Ric (who was a friend of Preston's and also knew Dr. Taylor) called him late on a Friday night and asked if anyone was staying at Dr. Taylor's summer house, Dr. Taylor told him that we were welcome to stay there. We spent the whole reunion there.
I always enjoyed it when Dr. Taylor and Margaret would do chapel and reminisce over the begining days of Tyndale.
I also can remember when Tyndale was on Gunderson and Dr. Taylor would join us regular folks in the lunchroom with a peanut butter sandwich or such.
I am thankful that I was blessed to have known Dr. Taylor and will always remember and be inspired by the example of Christ that he displayed. He has definitely challenged me to read God's Word more.
God bless the Taylor family, and may He continue to bless Tyndale House Publishers. I look forward to working many more years for Tyndale.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
Many years ago, when our eldest son was but a baby, I came across a delightful children's Bible storybook. Dr Taylor had authored it, and it rapidly became a family favorite for daily devotions for young children. It has been packed away for a few years awaiting grandchildren. Come to think of it, my first introduction to Dr. Taylor was with the presentation of my first modern language Bible, Reach Out. Although I'd been raised in a Lutheran home/church since birth, the wonderful translation completely revolutionized my spiritual life! As a direct result of reading/studying that Bible, I came to truly know Christ as my Savior and received Him as Lord when I was 16. How thankful I am that the friend of my stepmom gave me that treasured Book in spite of resistance from my stepmom (I think she was jealous of the vibrant life that overflowed from that dear lady's life). I remember thinking, "Wow! This is like God talking right to ME! And I understand Him!!!" May God richly reward Dr. Taylor for his faithfulness and service all these years. He has touched so many, many lives for Christ. My prayers are with his family, as they must miss him terribly. May God comfort them.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
I have known the name Kenneth N. Taylor ever since I received my first copy of The Living Bible from the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association in the 1970s. (It was the first Bible I read from cover to cover.) But I didn't know the person behind the name until I came to work for Tyndale as children's editor almost ten years ago. I was delighted to meet Dr. Taylor and to have the wonderful opportunity to serve as editor of several of his children's books. What I remember most about Dr. Taylor is what so many remember, and that is the fact that he was a praying man. We prayed together about every word and every art suggestion, seeking wisdom from God to be sure we were communicating his message correctly and understandably to little children. We also prayed for the illustrators, production schedules, parents and grandparents who would purchase the book, and the children to whom it would be read. And before I left his office, Dr. Taylor would never fail to ask how my elderly parents were. He would often pray for them as well. What a wonderful example to emulate! Dr. Taylor not only wrote the words that helped so many understand God's written Word. He also lived a life that helped us learn how to live for Jesus, the Living Word. I am motivated to walk more closely with my Savior when I hear Ken Taylor saying along with Paul, "Follow my example, just as I follow Christ's" (1 Corinthians 11:1, TLB).

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
Dear Taylor Family,
In 1972, while I was attending California State Polyphonic University at Pomona, two Navigator students witnessed to me and they used The Living Bible, and I was impressed that I understood what I read. About a year later at a church service I gave my life to the Lord. It was almost a year after that that I bought my own Living Bible. I used it for some time as my study Bible. God has blessed me through it. To continue the tory some 19 years later I was called to be a Wycliffe Bible Translator. I serve as a Computer Consultant in Africa. God has been using my meager gifts and abilities in helping in Bible translation.

Along with so many others we wish to express our sorrow in your loss, but acknowledge the joy that Ken is experiencing in the presence of Our Lord. We thank the Lord for His gift to all of us in Ken and his legacy. Janet, your gift of The Bible for Little Eyes for our little grandson with your father's autograph and note are all the more special to us. Thank you for that gift and for all you do. May He lighten your burdens and carry your loads. With Love,

How the Living Bible has affected me...
It is a pleasure to tell you that The Living Bible, and also the New Living Translation later, made a big impact on our family and also in my life.
In our family our father faithfully had family devotions with us. However, he was of German background and read from the German Bible, which we as children only half understood. It was one Father's Day that my sister gave Dad a Living Bible, and from that day on devotions were in English, much to our joy. I realized later that Dad did not understand the King James Version and therefore did not use it. So The Living Bible helped Dad and also us, his children.
Being part of Wycliffe Bible Translators in Peru, I have had the blessing of receiving the NLT as a gift from Tyndale House Publishers. Thank you. I use the NLT now for my daily reading. In the midst of the pain of the death of a loved one, there is certainly much to celebrate in the life of your husband and father who made such a tremendous impact on the English-speaking world, and also far beyond that in the effort of giving God's Word to people in a form that they can understand. II Thess. 2:16 "May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting comfort and hope which we don't deserve, comfort your hearts with all comfort, and help you in every good thing you say and do." In Christ, for an understandable translation of God's Word,

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
The Living Bible in the early 70s revitalized my desire to read God's Word and gave my teaching opportunities new meaning.
The Bible in Pictures for Little Eyes was the primary book for teaching biblical principles to our two sons in their early years. They are now both walking with the Lord and using Tyndale books, tapes, and videos to teach their children.
Sue and I have been blessed by my work and friendships, including Dr. Taylor, while at Tyndale during what I consider the final years of my professional life.
It is with sorrow we realize we will no longer enjoy time with him here on this earth but also, with joy as we are assured of his reward in heaven.

How the Living Bible has affected me...
Kenneth Taylor's Living Bible translation dramatically affected the mission of Youth for Christ New Zealand. Back in the 1970s, when we were struggling with the first signs of a post-christian generation of teenagers, The Way edition of the LB was instrumental in YFC NZ getting young people to read the Scriptures. As a mission, YFC NZ decided to become an importer of The Living Bible because we were so convinced that God had answered our prayers for a translation that young people would read and could understand. I remember working with non-church teenagers in a Campus Life Club and hearing them express amazement that the Bible made so much sense to them in their world. For a few years I ran an Insight Bible study with about 30-40 teenagers, most of whom were non-church kids, and they encouraged me with their interest in the Word of God as translated by Ken Taylor. Since then, we have imported the Life Application Bible when it came out and now are using the New Living Translation. YFC NZ is indebted to Kenneth Taylor for his obedience to God in translating the Scriptures into language and concepts that young people could understand. His work has made a life-changing impact on thousands of New Zealand teenagers and a lasting impact on the work of YFC NZ. We thank God.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
Growing up, there was one bedrock constant in the Hawkins home - family devotions around the breakfast table every single morning. Two resources were used for the devotional - Our Daily Bread and Dr. Kenneth Taylor's The Living Bible. Mom and Dad thought it of utmost importance for their children to get a daily intake of God's Word in a language they could intimately relate to and understand.
Mom also read from "Devotions for the Children's Hour" by Dr. Taylor during my growing up years. I have recently been using that same book with my 3 and 5 year old boys.
I was recently honored to have a collection of my cartoons published in a daily calendar - alongside Scripture - titled "365 Laughtershocks" published by Tyndale. When I was informed that Dr. Taylor hand-selected the 365 cartoons from the many I sent, I was honored and elated.
What an everlasting legacy he has left all of us - and particularly my family. Thank you, Dr. Taylor.
In Christ's Joy,
Jonny Hawkins

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
My wife and I served 30 years with Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF). During our years overseas, as a Wheaton Alumnus, she received a packet of books every year from Dr. V. Raymond Edmund, that he sent to missionaries. Beginning in the mid 1960s, those bundles included the "Living Letters" series, then the Living New Testament, and finally in the mid 1970s, that original green LIVING BIBLE.
These great Bible works were read at night, often by kerosene lamp and/or candle, in the Maya India village where we lived and based the MAF air serve in Yucatan and later in Chiapas, Mexico.
Later on Dr. Taylor made a generous contribution to help purchase MAF's first twin engine airplane for the Amazon flight ministry in Brazil.
In recent years, Dr. Taylor was a great encourager as we launched the Chinese translation of the PREACHER'S OUTLINE & SERMON BIBLE®. It was a generous grant from the Tyndale House Foundation, along with support and assistance from son/President Mark Taylor, that has brought this needed Bible study tool already to thousans of Chinese pastors and house church leaders.
Dr. Taylor finished faithful...he finished strong...an example to us all...based on living God's Word daily in our lives.

I didn't have any personal contact with Dr. Kenneth N. Taylor, but I am very much proud of him for what his contributions for the Bible translation field. Since I am on the same field in India I take this as my privilege to wish him happy bliss there where we all will meet one day. And his life and ministry is a model for us missionaries in this modern age. I too partake with the sorrow in his death. May God console all dear ones of Dr. Kenneth and bless them richly.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
I will always remember and respect Dr. Kenneth Taylor who was such a help and encouragement to us at Aramaic Bible Translation. He supported the translation of the New Assyrian New Testament and when it was completed, he came to the dedication given by the Patriarch at the Assyrian Church of East.
A few years ago I went to visit Dr. Taylor to tell him about a new Aramaic Bible Translation project. He received me in his office and listened to me with great interest. He asked pertinent questions, said encouraging things and, if I remember correctly, prayed for me and the project. Before I left I thanked him for the New Living Translation that I received when he donated them to all Wycliffe Bible Translators. I mentioned to him that I happened to get a Bible with the pages in the wrong order. He immediately got me a new copy, and at my request he put his signature in it. I have never asked for any one else's signature on anything, but I treasure that New Living Translation signed by Dr. Taylor. He was a man I could joyfully respect and emulate not only for his support of Bible translation among Aramaic people and many others around the world, but also for leading a simple, faithful and consistent Christian life.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
Though I am only a distant relative of Grandpa Taylor- not a real granddaughter at all, Grandpa has taken me completely under his wing as his granddaughter during my time as a student at Wheaton. I will always remember how each of our conversations somehow came the the question, "How can I pray for you?" He was a man of prayer, a lover of people, and always a model to me of one who desired to serve God with every day that his life held. In every sense, a spiritual grandpa to me. When I said goodbye to him this spring he placed a frail hand on my arm and blessed me; "May the Lord bless you and keep you, and make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you...and may he USE you until we meet again." Thank you Grandpa, I love you.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
I have worked for Tyndale House for almost 16 years, and never have I seen a company where the founder and chairman of the board is not just well-liked and respected, but truly loved by everyone as is Dr. Taylor. I have never heard an unkind word uttered about him, and the vision he had for this company is what keeps many of us here, knowing that we too are sharing in this ministry at “God’s publishing house,” as Dr. Taylor called it. And yet, rarely do you ever hear anyone refer to him as anything other than “Dr. Taylor,” and I believe that shows the incredible respect we all have for him. (Mark, I know we would all feel just fine if you’d go ahead and refer to him as “Dad!”) I share many of the same memories that have already been recounted here (although I’m not sure anyone has mentioned how he sometimes used to kick his shoes off in his office and then walk around in his stocking feet!). I will therefore share a more personal memory. A couple of years ago, I went through a very painful and bitter divorce, not of my choosing. Dr. Taylor wrote me a most beautiful letter, telling me that he had shared my news with Margaret, that he had committed me to God and they were both praying for me, calling me a sister in need. Shortly thereafter, Dr. Taylor called me in my office one day and asked me to come down to his. Once there, he told me he wanted to pray for me then and there. If you’ve ever been prayed over by Dr. Taylor, it is a quietly powerful and moving experience! He continued to pray for me, checking in with me often to see how I was doing. He also asked me to read a manuscript on divorce and advise him (advise HIM!) as to whether or not we should publish it. Once I began reading it, I then had the added anxiety of trying to figure out how to tell him that it was really awful! Afterward, I received a memo from him stating, “I too have come to the conclusion that we ought not to publish it, and it is being returned to the author. I hope that despite its deficiencies there may have been some personal help to you in your situation.” Well… it’s my bet that he’d determined that long before he gave it to me to read! Dr. Taylor cared about me. He cared about you. He cared about people. If you ever had the joy of being in Dr. Taylor’s presence, you knew you were standing with a man who truly had been touched by the LORD, and I came to know that the calm serenity that shone through those twinkling blue eyes was the love of Jesus simply radiating from him. To think that at the time of his death he thought most people wouldn’t give it more than a passing thought other than to say, “Sorry to hear it.” Reading these pearls of memories on this long, long strand certainly states otherwise. It was my privilege, my pleasure, and my blessing to know this extraordinary man, and I hope that despite his humility, he knew how very much we all loved him. To his family, you are all on my heart. I cannot wait to see you again, Dr. Taylor, receive one of your warm hugs, and look into those kind eyes as you tell ME, “Welcome home!”

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
I have a photo that I value: Dr. Taylor, standing behind me with his hands on my shoulders, at a Tyndale House reception in 1988 for the release of my first book, The Complete Book of Bible Trivia. Nothing pretentious or stagey in his pose, just a look of genuine warmth from a man pleased at seeing one of his authors (and also one of his employees at that time) release his first book. Years later I interviewed him for an article I was writing on Bible literacy, and the warmth and lack of pretense were still evident.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
As a newly published author, I received the privilege of attending the CBA convention to promote my book, "Let's Talk About Heaven." While riding the bus between buildings I was amazed to realize that one of the "Heroes of the Faith," Dr. Taylor was also riding the bus! He graciously autographed a copy of my book. Now, about 15 years later, I am busily writing a book titled, "I Love My Bible." I was surfing the Web to check out Bible societies to which donations from my royalties could be sent. In response to the video and excellently presented Web site, I hope to indicate the International Bible Society as a recipient. My prayers are with Dr. Taylor's family.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
June 19, 2005
Dear Taylor Family,
In 1971 I was suddenly widowed while in the midst of service with Wycliffe Bible Translators in a language group of the Peruvian rainforest. Naturally the leaner, and left with two young children, I did not know how I could possibly cope. It was then that the Living Psalms became my strength and comfort. The new phraseology focused my attention again on promises I had known but forgotten. The path seemd very hard, but for five years I lived in the Psalms, and the Lord sustained us. I returned to our language group to assure the people that God’s Word is true. It does not say that we will not be sad when we lose a loved one, it says, “When I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will not be afraid” (Davis translation). Also, His Word tell us that He is preparing a place for His own so beautiful that no one ever wishes to return from it to ‘grab’ another, as they had believed. I believe the people needed that witness. Eventually, I returned to school, completed a Ph.D., and now serve as an SIL International Literacy Consultant, roving from continent to continent to train literacy teachers who will open the translated Scriptures to yet other people groups. I owe a great debt to your husband and father who, through The Living Bible, provided me the special nourishment I needed to restore wholeness after a devastating loss. Please accept both my profound sympathies on your loss now and also my profound thanksgiving. He, and you with him, have joined in a unique ministry that has strengthened God’s people worldwide and made my story but one of hundreds. I pray that you will be comforted and encouraged in great measure.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
To the Taylor Family: I am thankful our GOD is with us, not only in the joyful times, but in the stressful, sad, and lonely times as well. I had opportunity to work at Tyndale in Accounts Receivable for two years before my son Nathaniel was born, 10/31/80. My memory of Dr. Taylor is one of compassion, integrity, and committment. I have the Silver Jubilee Edition #72 and the Study Reference Edition. As I study from them I am thankful to GOD for Dr. Taylor's dedication and yours in spreading The WORD. My association with Tyndale has picked up again in recent years as my evening job is at Eagles's Nest Bible Bookstore in Strousburg, Pa. It is with joy when I share with a customer about NLT or any of the product from Tyndale. You are in my prayers.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
I first heard of Dr. Taylor years ago as my husband and I looked forward to each new section of The Living Bible becoming available and then finally the complete Bible. So many have come to the Lord through being able to understand the plan of salvation through The Living Bible. I am thankful for the many children's books written by Dr. Taylor. Each of them is very special. Three of my children accepted Christ while we were having devotions using Dr. Taylor's devotional book for children. It was a blessing for me to finally meet Dr. Taylor when I began working for Tyndale House Publishers in 1997. I was impressed with his love for the Lord and how he exhibited it in his daily walk. He was a man of great integrity and humility. He never exhibited an air of superiority but offered friendship to each of us. He always greeted each employee with a warm smile and encouraged us in our walk with the Lord. His love for the Word was so evident and was an encouragement for each of us to be faithful in reading the Word. Even in his funeral service he was again encouraging us to be faithful in our walk with the Lord. The funeral was a wonderful testimony of God's saving grace. My life is richer for having worked at Tyndale and seeing Dr. Taylor on a regular basis. He is greatly missed, but we rejoice that he is with our Lord.

June, 1979--it was a joy for Dick and me to have you stay at the Wycliffe Guest House in Lima, Peru. Ken spoke to many of us one evening on the translation of the Living Bible. We shared around the table in the Group House dining room about our families. We have prayed for your family and trust they are all with you Margaret at this time of memorial. The Living Bible was the first of God's Word that really helped us understand in a more practical daily basis. We took it to Jungle Training Camp in Mexico. A member of the Navigators was our Bible study leader, and he would tell us to look up a certain passage and put it into our own words--and we were NOT to consult The Living Bible. After we turned in our papers, we would always look at The Living Bible and comment, "Why couldn't we have said it like that?" It really spoke to our hearts. Praise God for Ken's faithfulness to persevere. I'm sure he never knew how his life blessed people all over the world. We are so grateful for your generosity in giving Wycliffe members the Bible over the years as well as the permission to use the Children's Bible and pictures translated into the Quechua languages. May the God of all comfort surround you and your family with His abounding grace is our prayer.

How Tyndale House products have affected me...
When my children were small in the 60s, I read THE BIBLE FOR LITTLE EYES to them and played the tapes as they went to sleep. One is now a pastor's wife, and the others share their faith with their children. I share too when I'm home on furlough.
Thank you, Tyndale family, for allowing my to express my gratitude for the life and works of Dr. Taylor.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
I first met Ken about 1947, when he was working at Moody. I was a freshman at Wheaton, and my sister and her husband had a trailer parked up in the field behind his home. We used that trailer as one of the rendezvous points for the senior sneak.
It was sometime in that period that I heard that Ken was writing a version of the Bible for his kids. Then the Living N.T. was everywhere. Thank GOD for that and all that has happened since. We are indeed grateful.
In 1974, while serving with Wycliffe Bible Translators in Bolivia, South America, we were able to see the Bible League and the Ministry of Education sign a contract to distribute one million copies of the Living New Testament in Spanish for the million school children then enrolled. Many of today's Christian leaders say that they came to the LORD thru reading those donated New Testaments. Ken was most generous in allowing others to use his copyright, and the Bible League made good use of that privilege. Following the same type of program, many of the schools in Brazil and in southern Peru benefitted as well. We thank GOD for the generosity of Ken and the Bible League that brought this about.
Whenever I would get to Wheaton, he and I would meet to catch up on news and to pray for each other's kids. He wouldn't want any praise, but we happily honor his memory.
I'm really looking forward to seeing him again in Glory .

How Tyndale House products have affected me...
I will always appreciate the high value that Tyndale House has placed on calligraphic renderings of God's Word by artists such as Timothy Botts. Tim's work is an inspiration to me in my own work as a font designer for SIL International, a partner organization with Wycliffe Bible Translators. Thanks, Dr. Taylor, for your standards of excellence in the visual as well as the language presentation of biblical texts.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
Ken Taylor initiated a ministry which has enriched the world with wonderful literature and given them the Bible, not just in English words, but in English style and phraseology. May God bless his memory and all of the team at Tyndale House Publishing.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
I had the blessing of working at Tyndale House in the mid-90s. I had the double-portion blessing of spending time with Ken Taylor. I have many treasured memories of getting a call and hearing Ken's voice say, "John, come to my office to pray." He was never to busy to pray and to invest time in people, like me. As a writer, I have the deepest admiration for Dr. Taylor's work, but what left the most profound impression on me was his life and his character. He was a man of earnest prayer, a man of practical humility, and a man of untiring perseverance. As he enjoys the glory of heaven now in its fullness, I remember KNT as a man who began a heavenward life long before he ever got there.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
I had the wonderful opportunity of serving the Lord with Ken Taylor when we were fellow employees at Moody Bible Institute—he as Director of Moody Press and myself as Director of the Moody Evening School. One of my most vivid memories of Ken is riding the Northwestern train from Chicago to Wheaton—where we both lived. Ken had a yellow pad and was looking at a Bible. It was then he would paraphrase what he was reading into modern English. I remember asking him what he was doing. He was actually preparing this material to share with his family at evening devotions. I did not realize at that time that what he was doing would become “The Living Bible.” From there, everyone knows the rest of the story.
What an incredible contribution Ken has made to carrying out the Great Commission of our Lord Jesus Christ. He will be missed—but what he has done will abide forever. This is indeed the reality regarding the Word of God. Ken devoted his life to getting this message to people so they could understand it and apply it to their lives.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
I was sitting here feeling very blue on my first Father's Day without my dad and realized Mark Taylor will also mourn on Father's Day ... but where would we be without Ken Taylor?
What an example ... what a servant. I don't think this man had one enemy ... only love, respect, admiration, and loyalty. What a Christlike example ... how lucky we all are to have lived at a moment in time when his presence was felt.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
About 6 months ago I was looking at my daughter’s NLT Student Bible. It was written on, dog-eared, marked in, and the cover was falling off. Perhaps it is incorrect to make this analogy, but it reminded my of her favorite stuffed animal when she was younger – well loved and falling apart. I was going to rebuke her for being careless with her Bible but then remembered my soft cover copy of The Living Bible that I had as a young teenager – written on, dog-eared and falling apart. I have to wonder how many Bibles have ended up in this condition.
Thank you Dr. Taylor – it has been a joy and a priviledge to have worked for you.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
While serving on staff at Tyndale House from 1999-2003, I had the privilege of working with Dr. Taylor on a number of projects--including several mailings to pastors to introduce them to the New Living Translation. He clearly had a sense that his work would/should count for eternity. The intentionality in his life made a great impact on me.
Dr. Taylor lived a great balance between the seriousness of eternity and the small pleasures of this life--like a good snack and a cup of coffee or hot chocolate from the vending machine in the Tyndale cafeteria.
I will always remember and be thankful for Dr. Taylor's model of generosity to the Lord's work and to others. He made it his priority to give away as much money as he could to causes in which he believed. Those causes included Bible translation and the employees of Tyndale. Despite the financial success that the company experienced throughout the years, the Taylors chose to maintain a simple lifestyle. I will always remember those choices that he made and lived before us.
I'm grateful that I had the opportunity to know Dr. Ken Taylor and be influenced the life of this godly man. May God continue to use the work of his hands for many years to come. He leaves a great legacy of faithfulness to God and His Word.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
I had known who Dr. Taylor was years before I worked at Tyndale because my sister brought me to all of the banquets and picnics. When I started out, I was in the warehouse. But how amazing it was that Dr. Taylor cared so much about his employees that he came to each and every one of us--even in the warehouse--to find out who we were and where God was leading us. I felt as if I was in the presence of greatness, yet here was this amazing man speaking to me in person and really wanting to know who I was. I know a lot of people that have worked in the warehouse have the same memory I do. But that just drives this point home in a way that I could not do myself.
After that, I made it a point to talk to Dr. Taylor when I saw him, even just to say hi. I rode the elevator with him several times and dropped him off on the second floor while I made my way up to the third floor. He was always very gracious to everyone he met. And he cared so much about his employees. It is hard for all of us to see him go, but Dr. Taylor used every second God lent him to give glory back to God. He used the talent God gave him to reach out to others for Christ. And there is not the shadow of a doubt as to where Dr. Taylor is right now. Glory to God!
It is already odd to not see Dr. Taylor come in to work. But he had his hand in his company to the very end--almost literally. He was exactly the kind of person you dream of being able to work for. So for his caring attitude and giving heart, I give thanks to God for a great example of the faith. He really does belong in Hebrews 11.

How the Living Bible has affected me...
I was brought up in a non-Christian home, and the only Bible we had in the house was a copy of the King James Version. I had tried to read it from time to time, but always gave up somewhere in Leviticus. I became a believer at 17, and when I was 20 enrolled in Bible School. While there I heard about the work of Wycliffe Bible Translators and felt God leading me to work with them. About this same time I "branched out" and started reading other translations. The Bible School endorsed the KJV, but when I first read some of The Living Bible, I fell in love with it. My subsequent work with Wycliffe confirmed to me that God does indeed greatly desire His Word to communicate powerfully and dynamically in the heart language of everyone on earth. The Living Bible does exactly that for English speakers. Since 1974 I have thoroughly enjoyed my work of translating the Scriptures into first the Tagbanwa language here in the Philippines, and then the Aklanon language, as well as helping check translations in many of the languages of the Philippines. I am more convinced than ever that God is not pleased when His Word is couched in archaisms or literalisms which seriously cloud its intelligibility. Dr. Taylor was a giant in the field of making God's Word communicate dynamically. He was a true pioneer, and his legacy is millions of people whose spiritual lives were truly enriched as they came to truly understand the meaning of the Scriptures, and as they applied that understanding to their daily lives. I'm sure Ken has heard Jesus saying to him "Well done my good and faithful servant!"

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
A Tribute to a Tailor of Scripture
God bless the memory of a man
Whose aim was that we’d understand
The book King James had authorized
That we find hard to read.
Ken didn’t use a spool of thread.
His stock in trade was words, instead.
He tailored Scripture for our times
With phrases that made sense.
His Living Bible fit our day.
With seamless grace, he found a way
To bring God’s timeless truth to bear
Upon a changing world.
But publishers would not accept
A paraphrase they thought suspect.
And that is when Ken said, ”Okay.
I’ll do it on my own.”
And so he did, and so he thrived.
Because Ken’s Bible seemed alive,
It wasn’t stiff and cold at all;
That’s how Tyndale was born.
His growing House became a home
Where editors would tweak and hone
The manuscripts that writers wrote
That soon turned into books.
Those books gave voice to one who strained
To speak a word or say his name.
In whispered words Ken spoke his mind
To colleagues and to kin.
And now that raspy voice is gone,
But what he birthed will long live on.
The living book Ken left behind
Cannot be overlooked.

How the Living Bible has affected me...
Before I joined Wycliffe, I read The Living Bible to stimulate a deeper understanding of and appreciation for God's Word. The LB's contemporary language was useful to get me thinking along new lines. I also gave my mother a LB, since she was still reading the KJV. My wife and I are now still reading the New Living Translation, which continues to stimulate our thinking and emoitions in response to God's special revelation for all of us. We praise God for Dr. Taylor's service to the worldwide church.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
I met Dr. Taylor in April 1995 when I was struggling to publish a monthly Christian tabloid. While contemplating quitting the paper I read a short article on tenacity that mentioned Dr. Taylor and his transcribing the King James Bible. The next day I called Tyndale House to request biographical data and history on The Living Bible and was invited out to meet Dr. Taylor. When I arrived a week later, his secretary told me that she was in shock after inviting me, because he no longer granted meetings or gave interviews. t was God's grace that granted me that memorable meeting.
Dr. Taylor was so humble and graceful. He prayed with me, listened to me, hugged me; and when I prepared to leave, he gave me his autobiography and a Life Application Bible. He also gave me videos of McGee and me for my nieces and nephews.
Dr. Taylor was a wonderful man who joins my parents and others in heaven.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
My favorite memory of Dr. Taylor is when Tyndale House went bowling. I can remember looking over a few lanes down, and seeing him sitting on the floor pushing the bowling ball with his feet (we had to do a round of crazy bowling with various goofy stunts). Dr. Taylor really embraced life and lived it to the fullest, be that in publishing, praying, or playing. I am honored to have worked for this incredible man, and to have been able to glimpse his sweet and gentle spirit.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
I never had the privilege of knowing Dr. Taylor personally, although I've spoken with him a handful of times over the years. But I feel I knew him initimately by observing the fruit of his life, as seen from a distance, as well as through the account of his story in his autobiography, "My Life: A Guided Tour."
I especially feel a strong bond with him for the fact that his company is the one who agreed to publish my HoneyWord Bible for children. His heart and calling for making God's Word stick with children fuels and encourages my own heart to the same end.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
As a young student at Moody Bible Institute in the 60s, I would receive "love letters" from my girlfriend (now my wife). At times the letter would have been opened and then taped shut. When I would open the letter, there would be a kind note inside that usually would say, "this came to me by mistake and after reading the first sentence, I knew it must be for you and not me as no one talks so sweetly to me!" My girlfriend soon learned to address the love letters as Kenneth Taylor, student! When the "real" Kenneth Taylor spoke at Taylor University a couple of years ago, I had the opportunity to meet him and he told me that he remembered getting the letters. Of course I was impressed with his sharp memory.I also had the joy of working with his grandaughter Kristen when she was a student at Taylor and we often joked about my name being the same as her grandfather!
After our marriage and births of our children, we had the joy of first taching them the things of God through the reading to them nightly from Bible Pictures For Little Eyes and othe devotionals written by Dr. Taylor.I thank God for being able to have the same name as this giant of a man and thank God for all the great things he did for the Kingdom. Our prayers are with all the family.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
I grew up as a missionary kid in Bolivia, and from the beginning my life was affected by Dr. Taylor. "The Bible in Pictures for Little Eyes" was my introduction to God's Word. My parents read to me from "Devotions for the Children's Hour," and the first Bibles I remember were all Living Bibles like "The Way."
Now I am working as a missionary with CLC helping distribute Bibles and Christian books around the world and find that Ken Taylor was instrumental in helping our organization in many areas of the world. Today I'm teaching my children using the same books my parents used, and I praise God for Dr. Taylor's impact on me and my family. It was a great priviledge for me to meet Dr. Taylor and thank him a few years ago. May God continue to bless the work which goes on!

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
As a Bible translator and one who has loved God's word, The Living Bible represented how I wanted the NT to sound in Kewa, the language of PNG that my wife and I worked with. But The Living Bible went further because it was the Bible that our two children grew up with and learned about Jesus through. Ken Taylor went beyond what translators and scholars of his day were willing to do--admit that the Bible could be read and understood by children! Thank God for the life and example of Dr. Taylor.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
After reading Mark's message to the company on the passing of Dr. Taylor, I wanted to cry. They were tears of joy because I can boldly and proudly say that I am one of those million lives that was reached by The Living Bible and Dr. Taylor. Eighteen years ago I was not a Christian when I started working for Tyndale, but through the love and support of the Tyndale family, I accepted the Lord into my life. I was given a passage to live my life around and it has never faild me. Philippians 4:6: "Don't worry about anything but pray about everything and don't forget to thank him for all that he has given you." So I would like to do that right now. Thank you, God, for Dr. Taylor. Thank you for his vision, his life, his love for all of us and for the gentle example of a true christian. Thank you, Dr. Taylor, for it's because of your work that I am one of God's family.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
During the last year I twice had the privilege of having time alone with Dr. Ken as he eagerly wanted to be updated about the work of Sovereign World International - our ministry of supplying books to over 150 developing nations. He was a great encourager.
We also talked about the prison work in which I am involved in the UK, and he offered to send me 200 copies of the New Living Translation for free distribution. Sadly the Lord took him before this became a reality.
As we sat and prayed together I felt more of the presence of the Lord than the presence of this great servant of God.
Everytime I left Dr. Ken's office he would offer me a book and always take me personally to the lift (elevator!). Last November, as the doors were closing, I sensed that this would be the last time that I would see him this side of Glory. He was very frail, but his face "glowed" with the Light of Christ.
What an amazing privilege to know such a man and what an amazing privilege to have him regularly pray for me and our work. He always had a "heart for the nations" and always had/made time to see me whenver I "flew" through Chicago. Thank you, Lord."

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
I have an old "Parallel" Bible at home, and it is well worn and well loved. My favorite version in this is The Living Bible, and it is well marked, showing all the hallmarks of love and affection. I have had this bible for over 20 years. I love its language--it is like
recieving a letter from an old friend. For many of us it has drawn
us closer to the everyday language that the Bible was written in
and has helped me to draw closer the the author. Consider just
one verse: "Every path he guides us on is fragrant with his lovingkindness." This is why it continues to be one of my favorites
and will always be.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
When I was a young teen my mother worked at a print shop in Wheaton Illinois. She was from a Catholic background and had not read Scripture at all. Ken Taylor brought to that print shop some small booklets to be printed, which turned out to be the Gospels. As my mother helped prepare the booklets, she began to read them. I remember her coming home with this little book and saying, "This is great stuff he writes." It took a few years, but my mother came to know Jesus. God's Word in the form of The Living Bible spoke to her heart.

We were invited to a weekend with Living Bibles. We were so impressed, we went out and invited others for the evening. It was our first esposure to the need for Bible translation. Through the information we did join Wycliffe in 1985 and have been involved in preperation of materials for translators on CD-ROM. Our memories of that weekend and Ken's speaking to us have been a most precious memory. Thank you for this opportunity.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
I was a pre-teen MK in Peru where my parents served with Wycliffe Bible Translators when The Living Bible began coming out in short books--Living Letters, Living Psalms and Proverbs, etc. We were blessed to be recipients of those books, and we used them faithfully in our family devotions. I have loved The Living Bible ever since then and have used it--and later the New Living Translation--in my own walk with God. I love the clarity of the message as presented in these versions of the Bible, and appreciate Dr. Taylor so much for giving us the Bible in a language we can easily understand!

How the Living Bible has affected me...
When I was 13 years old my dad bought Living Letters - a new portion of Scripture just published. Reading Paul's letters in a language I could understand impacted my life in a deep way. I could hardly believe that God was speaking that clearly to me. As a result, I became a Bible translator so that the Buglere people of Panama could have the same joy of reading God's Word in a language that speaks to their heart. Thanks be to God and to Ken Taylor for allowing God to use him as a Bible translator.

How the Living Bible has affected me...
When I was 16, my parents gave me a copy of The Living Bible.
I never picked it up to read it until seven years later -- that fateful night of January 14, 1979. I had returned from a party where all in attendance heard a cassette recording in which the speaker told of an end of the world that was soon to come. Not another high person in that room was affected as I was by what I heard. I became so filled with fear that I ran outside and began to talk to God. I told Him I believed what I had heard and that whatever I needed to do, if He would just show me, I would do it. I went home filled with fear. As I crawled into bed to hide myself, I had to put a phonebook in its place on the bedside table. This required that I move The Living Bible from its place. It had stood there for seven years, kept by the power of God for that night's opening. Instead of just putting it aside, I picked it up and opened it. My eyes fell upon Matthew 23 and 24. I began to understand as I read that God knew all about the end of the world and He had everything in control. I began to read and read, and the fear began to leave and peace began to fill my soul. For the next six months, everytime I felt filled with fear, I turned to reading The Living Bible. God used the simple language to reveal to me that I was a sinner. I had gone to church every single Sunday for over 20 years. I sang in the choir. But I drank, smoked pot, lied and wanted to stop living the lie that I was so ashamed to be living. I will never forget how this author put it in the book of James: "If you know what you are doing is wrong and you keep on doing it, that is sin to you." God's Spirit anointed the simplicity of this translation to reveal Jesus as the answer to my sins. I had always believed Jesus was the Son of God, born of a virgin and that He was crucified and rose again from the dead. I just didn't understand WHY. On January 14, 1979, the Lord led me to a place where I heard the gospel preached and responded to the call. The six months of sowing and watering that His Spirit did through The Living Bible reading were instrumental to my salvation. Thank God for godly parents who labor to teach the truths they've come to understand to their children. May the Lord's comforts abound towards those of Brother Taylor's family who remain behind. Soon, we shall all be reunited in that land beyond the sky...where there'll be no separatations, no more partings, no more sighs. Come quickly, Jesus!

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
When I was in high school in the 70s, my brother went off to college and became a Christian. His Christmas gift to me was a Living Bible with a challenge and a promise. If I read it, he would research and answer any questions I had via mail from college. Finally, the Scriptures came to light for me. I understood the Gospel clearly. I gave my life to Christ, and eventually gave my life to Bible translation with Wycliffe Bible translators. I wanted others to have the same chance that I did to hear God speaking their language clearly. Now, I carry and use the New Living Bible. It is my Father speaking to me in my mother tongue. What an impact of Dr. Taylor's work!

I'm a member of Wycliffe Bible Translators serving with The Seed Company. Nearly 31 years ago I met the Lord at the age of 18 when a friend shared the Good News from The Living Bible. Two years ago I met Ken at a TSC event and hugged his neck, realizing that his work helped bring me to Christ, to fall in love with the Scriptures, to become a Bible translator... and now to help further the work through The Seed Company... it was a moment of joyful tears. Thanks.

How the Living Bible has affected me...
I never met Dr. Taylor. In the early 1970's when I was a young teen, I attended a youth group in a Baptist church in Decatur, AL. We read from The Living Bible. I loved it. Finally, a Bible I could understand! Prior to this, I had only been exposed the the KJV. I bought a copy of The Living Bible and because of the things it taught me (through the Holy Spirit, of course), I accepted Christ as my savior. Thank you, Dr. Taylor, for your work on this translation, and I am sure I will meet you in heaven one day. Incidentally, I still have that old paperback copy of The Living Bible.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
I met Ken Taylor only once. It was way up in Northern Saskatchewan, on Dore Lake. I was there with my father, Ken Anderson, shooting another Christian children’s film at the place where author Bernie Palmer went each summer in order to get away and write. Ken and a number of family members came up to Dore to relax and do some fishing. I didn’t see much of them because of our heavy production schedule.
So, today, I attended the funeral in order to say good-bye, but also because my parents, Ken and Doris Anderson, were unable to make the trip. Both are 86.
I’m always amazed to see the impact that just one person can make for the cause of Christ. Certainly Ken Taylor ranks high on any list when it comes to being such a positive force. I’m the author of Adventures for Kids and can only hope that, in time, my work will also touch many lives.
The Living Bible has been my preferred translation of the Bible ever since my parents gave me a copy in 1973. Even now my daily reading continues to come from that green, hardbound copy.

I respected Dr. Taylor even before I came to work at Tyndale House Publishers eleven years ago. When I was growing up, my parents read the Bible to their children at every meal, and I remember what a breath of fresh air The Living Bible brought to those family times. When Bas and I became parents, we chose what we found to be the very best: Taylor’s Bible Story Book with the Richard and Frances Hook illustrations. From our children's earliest years they were blessed by that book, and they treasure their copies.
When I joined the Tyndale family as an editor, I gained an even wider appreciation of Dr. Taylor’s integrity and faithfulness. I remember riding the elevator each day to the third floor, and when the doors opened, Dr. Taylor stared into my eyes from the oil painting that hangs on the wall. I “heard” him say to me, “I’m glad you’ve joined us. What you do in this building is important work. The message our authors share in their books is the best message in the world. Make it clear. Help our authors stay faithful to the Word. What you do here counts for eternity.” Then, as I turned toward my office, I looked at the “Cloud of Witnesses” sketch that hangs on the other wall in that hallway. That piece of art reminded me that just as Dr. Taylor did his work in full view of a great cloud of witnesses—just as he was one person in a long line of men who risked much to bring the Bible to the world—I, too, would do my work that day before a great cloud of witnesses. Ken Taylor inspired me. He set the bar high. He was a faithful, humble servant. A true saint.

How the Living Bible has affected me...
I entered a personal relationship with Jesus in late 1971. A year later I was invited to be a group leader at a high school Campus Crusade for Christ weekend. There was one person in our group who we knew did not have personal relationship with Christ. In fact was not very open to the group and the gospel. Finally on the last day of the weekend, this high school student opened up and through the prayers of our group and the power of the Holy Spirit, this high schooler gave his heart and life to Jesus.
I learned that day, that not only had he heard the gospel before, but a picture of this student holding his guitar was the one used in the front of The Living Bible. He said that because his picture was taken for the publication of the Living Bible, he became more interested in the Bible and one of the reasons he came to this conference... and changed his life.
What a thrill to know that.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
KEN TAYLOR'S LIFE AND WORK TOUCHED US ALL
My mother, Bettie Turner, lost her mom in the early sixties and shortly after that, Mother found Jesus as her Savior and LORD. "What has happened to Mom?" we asked ourselves. "She's so different, so filled with peace and joy!"
One of the first things we noticed was that in the office of our family business, Turner Crane, she would read aloud to us from a little book called, LIVING LETTERS.
"I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the wonderful future he has promised to those he called. I want you to realize what a rich and glorious inheritance he has given to his people..." Eph. 1:18 (Living Bible)
Later, as one by one we became believers, Mother presented us with copies of The Living Bible so we could read and understand exactly what the Word of God meant in our lives. My first Bible was a padded green copy of The Living Bible.
Every huge mobile crane and truck in the business carried a copy of The Living Bible in it. (This is a tradition which carries on in the family firm today!)
Every year at CBA, Mother, Brock, and I, and our sons, Luke and Jake, made a point to seek out Dr. Taylor. She always said hello and showed him photos of kids and grandkids and thanked him for the Living Bible which so influenced our lives for Jesus! He remembered Mother from year to year and always had a kind word when we showed up at the Tyndale booth. Meeting Dr. Taylor was always the high point of Mother's annual CBA pilgrimage! (He and Margaret were among the few who had more great-grandkids than my mother and dad! ("But we're not done yet," she would say.)
Mother left for heaven two weeks before Dr. Taylor. Everyone in our big family is certain that she is cruising through heaven in awe and no doubt has found Ken Taylor once again to talk to him about books and stories and reaching the world with the good news in ways which ordinary folks like us can understand.
Mother's last request was that every member of our family receive a Bible from her at her funeral service. Forty-seven Bibles were inscribed, "Love, Nana and Papa", and given to each of us.
Though my heart aches at the loss, it is a comfort to me as I imagine Mother and Ken Taylor praying for those of us who remain behind as we continue the work they began in a way which gives all honor and glory to God.
The hearts of all our family are with all the Taylor kinfolk. The world is poorer for Ken Taylor's passing, while heaven is richer for his arrival home.
Now the torch is passed on to us all.
Love in Jesus,
Bodie Thoene and all the Thoene-Turner clan

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
I have worked at Tyndale for almost nine years. When I accepted this job, I got a lot of things I needed at the time, such as benefits, salary, and reentry to the workforce from an at-home mom. What I got was so much more. My job is to manage the company/employee benefits. I was amazed at the objective of my job. I was to ensure all employees got the most out of their benefits and the extreme measures I was to take to make this happen. It has become a part of my personal fabric and I use this discipline in every aspect of my life. It gives me great peace and joy. Thank you, Dr. Taylor, for the generous gifts you have given, and the spirit in which you gave them is certainly heaven sent. May all your family enjoy God's comfort as they adjust to your earthly absence.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
There are many ways Dr. Taylor's life influenced my life - and all for the better. The first memory I have, though I didn't know the name on the book, was my daddy reading to me my favorite book, The Bible in Pictures for Little Eyes.
Second, when a wayward teen and very backslidden, a copy of The Way that sat on my nightstand, brought me comfort and conviction as the Holy Spirit drew me back to my heavenly Father.
Most recently as a Tyndale employee, is the memories I have of dr. Taylor's welcoming smile and outstretched hand whenever I'd peek in his office at the end of an author tour. Typically, after the tour I ask authors if there's anything else they'd like to see, and inevitably, they'd ask, rather timidly if there was any way they might meet Dr. Taylor. And, without fail, our beloved Dr. Taylor greeted the author with such grace and honor that one would think they were the most important author Tyndale had.
How grateful I am to have known in a very tiny way, one of the greatest men in Christiandom of the last century. A true servant of the Lord.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
The first Bible I bought as a new Christian was "The Way," and it cost me $5.95 in 1972. It sits next to me on my desk as I type this email. I have it all marked up with yellow highlighter marks and underlined with ballpoint pens lines. I have purchased and have been given other Bibles in the years since then, but my "first" Bible has a special place in my heart. I read it all the way through because it was written so I could understand it. God used it to help me grow in my life as a new believer. Many thanks to Ken Taylor for his work in helping get this brother into the Word and on the right track.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
I came to Tyndale in the summer of 2000 knowing very little English. Even though I had taken English classes it was hard for me to understand my first Bilingual Bible Spanish/English King James Version. I met Dr. Taylor one of those days he would come to the warehouses to shake the hands of every employee. That was the first time I realized how humble he was and how the presence of the Lord was present in Dr. Taylor's life. I got my first New Living Translation Bible from Tyndale, and I couldn't express the joy I had in being able to learn God's Word in a different language other than my native language.
I was also given his book "My Life: Guided Tour" where while reading chapter 29, I learned that Dr. Taylor wrote that a missionary from BOLIVIA said to him how he wished they had Living Letters in the Spanish language. Considering the fact the I am from Bolivia I feel so blessed that I had the privileged of meeting Dr. Taylor and learned from him over and over of his servant's heart and his humble life.
Dr. Taylor was well-known here on earth, and I will be always amazed by the way he would care about ordinary people like me.
You'll be always remembered, Dr. Taylor.
We followed your instructions singing at your farewell.
Good-bye for now.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
In 1968 I came to Christ through Young Life ministries. Shortly after coming to Christ I sought the Word of God beginning with Good News, then the Amplified and finally (heaven!) I discovered the Living Psalms and Proverbs. It was love at first "bite." The Living Bible fed my soul and I have recommended ever since.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
When we first started publishing with Tyndale House, we were walking down the hallway and saw two paintings: of William Tyndale and Kenneth Taylor. Looking at the images of these two giants of the Christian faith, I turned to my bride and remarked, "Tyndale was burned at the stake in his commitment to Jesus. Dr. Taylor wrote the Living Bible on the "L" so his children would have a readable Bible. Let us never do anything in our books to dishonor Jesus Christ or these two Godly men that God has used for His Glory. Today we celebrate the life, the well lived life, of one of our heroes: Dr. Kenneth Taylor.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
Dear Margaret, Mark, and all the Taylor family:
I recall a conversation I had with a young pastor some years ago. He was trying to communicate with young people, but had trouble keeping their attention, especially when he read from the Bible. I asked what version of the Bible he used. “Why, the King James Version, of course.”
“Well,” I said, “the King James Version doesn’t speak the same language that young people use today. Have you considered using a more up-to-date version?”
So then he asked me what I considered to be the best translation of the Bible into English. I replied, “It hasn’t been made yet. But if I were to choose from those I am familiar with, it would be a combination of J. B. Phillips and Ken Taylor.” He said, “Phillips I can understand. But Taylor? Obviously it reflects a very low level of scholarship.”
I said, “Have you considered the possibility that one could use a very competent and meticulous level of scholarship, and then deliberately express the results of that scholarship in a style of English which would be very easy for even a child to understand?” He said, “I never thought of it that way.”
I have had a deep respect for Ken’s scholarship, and a warm admiration for his persistence in “bringing it down to a lower shelf,” within reach of children, and also of people of any age who grew to appreciate their new understanding of the meaning often hidden behind long-familiar phraseology.
But Ken was not a one-man band. Each of you has invested a great deal in what became Tyndale House, and I appreciate all of it, even the facets of it that I’ll never know about. As a 54-year member of Wycliffe Bible Translators who has been heavily involved in the study of the New Testament Greek text, and also involved in translating the New Testament into one of the languages of Guatemala, I have often found that Ken’s decisions about the meaning of a particular text closely resembled my own, and have been glad for his courage in making those decisions explicit in his work. I appreciated his personal encouragement in connection with my own work.
I especially appreciated the brief contacts with him and you, Margaret, here at Go Ye Village when you came to visit Betty. I feel I have lost a personal friend, and future visits to Tyndale House Publishers will not be the same without Ken and Lois in that accessible office.
Grief is a place that must be visited, but not a place to take up residence. May the God of great encouragement encourage each of you in these days, and for all time and eternity. Ray Elliott, and for Helen.-

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
I’ve had the privilege of knowing Ken and Margrett from a distance for the past 12 years as pastor to their daughter, Gretchen, and her family in Grand Rapids. In meeting Ken you immediately felt here was a man who walked with Christ. His humility and gentleness combined with a passion for God and for God’s Word was part of his being.
To know a man whose influence was so broad, who God has used so visibly and uniquely, and to see his genuine and humble love combined with the unpretentious nature of his life was always a blessing and encouragement. To me he will always be an extraordinary model of a communicator of the gospel across the generations and a devoted and loving husband and father.
“And I heard a voice from heaven saying, ‘Write this down: Blessed are those who die in the Lord from now on. Yes, says the Spirit, they are blessed indeed, for they will rest from all their toils and trials; for their good deeds follow them!’” Revelation 14:13 (NLT)

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
I first 'met' the LB in India where I saw at first-hand the profound impact it made on ordinary saints' understanding of God's Word. For thousands, it was a case of one bound from the KJV to the LB, with extraordinary results! Later, I was privileged to assist the distribution of the LB in many African countries. During this period I twice met Dr Taylor. The second time was in the late '70s, in London. He saw me come into the room and instantly came across to me, asking after me by name, totally focused on one he hardly knew. Such grace... How good Life is for him now!

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
I worked at Tyndale House back in the early 70s, fresh from Wheaton College. I have yet to work in a better environment or with a more dynamic and committed group of people. I recognized from the beginning that this was due to the leadership and spiritual depth of Dr. Taylor. I'm not sure he knew this, but he was a father figure for me as well as an example of what a Christian man is like.
I have thought of him and of Tyndale House often through the years, and while I mourn the fact that he has left us, I rejoice in where he has gone and look forward to a grand reunion one day!

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
When one of my handicapped children died a few years ago, I called Dr. Taylor as having lost my own father earlier, I had no father figure to confide my feelings. In those few minutes over the phone, thousands of miles away, he comforted me and prayed with me. He spoke as best he could to help a hurting soul. He was a great man in many ways, but I remember him as a kind man.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
My wife and I counted it a privilege to spend time with Dr. Ken Taylor several years ago. We learned from Tyndale's staff that Dr. Taylor had personally reviewed and edited the devotional application notes we wrote for the Living Faith Bible. What a gift that was to us. We so enjoyed reading Dr. Taylor's biography, but a tall bookshelf couldn’t contain the hundreds of thousands of stories people could tell about his life, ministry, and legacy. What a rich legacy, indeed!

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
During my six years at Tyndale I met with Dr. Taylor almost every month to discuss The Church Around the World bulletin. The things I remember most are his expansive knowledge of world geography (who else knows the population of Nigeria off the top of their head?), his continual advice to check and double-check the facts, his love for all things sweet, yellow sticky notes on his office door that said “Resting,” and the way he made each person who passed through his door feel like they were the most important person in the world. Thank you, Taylor family, for sharing Dr. T. with all of us. He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
Like many, I was introduced to Ken Taylor through the Living Bible. Starting with Living Letters, each new section was an encouragement to my spiritual development in college. Now, many years later, as a freelancer working for Tyndale House I recently had the privilege of doing a summary of Ken Taylor's autobiography for the Tyndale International website. As I read his story, it was impossible to condense it into just one or two articles. It ended up taking twelve installments--not to catalog the accomplishments of a man, but to walk with him on his "guided tour" with God. Like many of the Bible heroes he wrote about, Ken Taylor was himself an example of how God accomplishes extraordinary things through very ordinary and fallible people. His tour guide would often wait patiently until Ken laid his burdens at His feet so the journey could go on. Now, his tour has ended as he joins that great cloud of witnesses who encourage each of us on our own journey.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
When we became Christians, neither of us had a Bible--that should tell you something!
Roger received his first Bible from a fellow teacher in the public school in which he was a guidance counselor. It was the olive green covered edition of The Living Bible.
Becky received her first Bible from her boss, a non-Christian at the time. The boss was so amazed at the changed life of her young employee, she went to a bookstore and bought a large print copy of The Living Bible! We both (Roger and Becky) still have those Bibles...
As we grew as Christians and found each other in YFC, we were desperate for a resource that would help us to read the Bible daily. The One Year Bible (in special edition) is not only our resource for daily Bible reading, but it is the tool we encourage all whom we speak to and disciple to use in order to hear God daily ... always adding, "if we can do it, you can do it."
Thank you, Ken Taylor, for your influence upon our lives from the first week we became Christians, even to this day and beyond!

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
Please accept my deepest sympathies on the loss of Dr. Taylor. His NLT bible assisted in bringing me to Christ. Last summer I was diagnosed with cancer, and his bible was carried with me as I traveled to MD Anderson and Mayo Medical Clinics. It brought me great comfort and hope.
A year later, I have become a student at The Denver Seminary and have purchased many copies of The NLT to give to others as I share God's Word.
Today Dr. Taylor has heard the words we all long to hear from our Lord "Well done, my good and faithful servant." Please know that I will have Dr. Taylor and his family in my prayers.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
Though it has been several years since I left my job at Tyndale House, it has been the place that I have consistently affirmed to anyone looking for a place in Chicago to work. I can't count how often I have said what a wonderful wonderful experience my time was, and that is attributed so greatly to the leadership, mission, vision and environment created by Dr. Taylor. As so many others have said, the moments when Dr. Taylor would stop by my office to check in on the projects was always a joy and amazement. Truly, we have all been blessed by the reflection of the Father seen in Dr. Taylor's life. The "Stones of Remembrance" from Tyndale's anniversary and the chance to celebrate milestones with Dr. & Mrs. Taylor and Tyndale were unforgettable. Dr. Taylor's legacy has still only begun - generations to come will know our God because Dr. Taylor served. Today we rejoice with the angels for a life well lived.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
Long before I knew who Dr. Taylor was, I received a copy of Living Letters, which I still have. Then I read "The Bible in Pictures for Little Eyes" to my 3 children when they were tots, over and over again. It was their favorite. Never did I realize that one day I would be working for Tyndale House Publishers and know Dr. Taylor personally. I have been here for almost 10 years, and the first thing that impressed me was the family atmosphere. Even though the company has grown and people would come and go, Dr. Taylor remained the same humble servant. He knew just about everyone's name and took the time to converse with us. He would stop by Customer Service to see if we had any "sweets." One of his favorite places to visit was in the cafeteria at the vending machines. I will remember him as a shy and humble servant. Tyndale's corporate purpose is to
minister to the spiritual needs of people, primarily through literature consistent with biblical principles. Even though Dr. Taylor will be missed greatly I know that our corporate purpose at Tyndale will continue.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
I was blessed to have worked at Tyndale for several years. Never have I met a man so humble, so gracious, and so full of joy as Dr. Taylor. He would walk around the offices a few times a year just to say thanks for the work that was being done. This was always the most impressive thing. He cared about people--who they were and their life in God. This is a lesson I have carried on in my work experience, and it is a story I tell people often. This is a man who loved people well, which is a true reflection of the way he loved Jesus.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
To us in India, Dr. Ken Taylor was not just the author of
The Living Bible paraphrase, but someone we knew and
loved on his many visits to our country.
Dr. Ken was also an inspiration to us as a family man who loved his children enough to want to give them God's Word in a language they could understand, and who then adopted the whole world as his family for this purpose.
As a result of Dr. Ken Taylor's love for the multitudes of India, we now have translations of The Living Bible in 14 languages of this sub-continent. The model set by Dr. Ken has resulted in translations that have been highly commended by best-selling authors, and prominent literary critics in the respective languages.
We praise God for the extraordinary contribution of His faithful servant to the spread of God's Word among the 1 billion people of India. We as former staff of LB India will always remember him in our walk, talk and ministry. We are grateful to God for Dr. Taylor's life, who in turn touched our lives, causing us to work for Him.
May our dear God be with Mrs. Taylor, Mark, and family.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
I remember the first time Dr. Taylor sat down in my office (my office!!) and asked what I was working on. No one had prepared me for his raspy voice, and I leaned forward a bit to understand what he was saying.
I think I leaned forward from then on. Dr. Taylor rarely spoke, but when he did, he made his words count. And he always made me feel that what I was saying was worth hearing too. I hope people can (and will) say the same about me, when I hear the Master's call to glory, and that I can stop by and ask Dr. Taylor what he's been up to.

I had the privilege of interviewing Dr. and Mrs. Taylor for a magazine piece years ago. We met in their home, and the warmth, respect, humor and -- yes -- honesty of a long and faithful marriage was a powerful testimony.
I was also talking just today with colleagues at Moody Publishers about Dr. Taylor's impact as visionary, innovator, and one of the chief architects of our industry. Every one of us serving in this business-ministry, whether at Tyndale or elsewhere, has in some way been affected by his legacy.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
I loved Ken Taylor. I still love him--and miss him. His paraphrase made the Bible come alive to millions because it was so easy to understand. The Living Bible is simple and clear. All who read it can see Jesus Christ in its pages. How like Ken's own life--simple and clear, showing a Jesus we could see and understand. Ken was himself a Living Bible, making it easy for us to see Jesus Christ in the chapters of his life. May we in some small way reflect Jesus so clearly.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
I began working in a Christian bookstore in September 1971. The publication of The Living Bible was one of the major events that propelled Christian publishing and bookselling into a major industry. Christian booksores were primarily mom and pop opertions before then. I spent 10 years managing Christian bookstores and 11 years representing book and Bible publishers to Christian bookstores.
I recognize Dr. Taylor's impact through The Living Bible, other publications, starting a major publishing house, and starting Christian Booksellers Association. My employment for 2 decades directly benefited from his pioneering work. I heard many of the old veterans in CBA circles speak highly of their long-time friend.
It was a great privilege to meet this humble man and have my picture taken with him at a CBA convention.
On a personal level--in the first month after The Living Bible was published--I bought one for my mom's birthday. After she opened it, I noticed my dad reading it for an extended period of time. Although our family was active in church, I had never seen my dad read anything other than the newspaper for that long. I knew that The Living Bible was going to be used by many who never used their Bibles before.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
Actually, my memories involve both Ken's life and The Living Bible. I first met Ken in 1963, when I was on the faculty of Wheaton College and was asked by him to become his Hebrew scholar consultant for The Living Bible OT. Within a year I was back east teaching first at Brandeis University and then at Yale. During those years I worked with Ken daily via mail on the old LB. I found him the most gracious, kind, and humble man I had ever known. And it was pure joy working daily on the Hebrew text and consulting with him. While I was at Yale, I published my first book (on food production among the ancient Hittites). I sought help for a subsidy to publish it from many endowments and businesses, without success. When I happened to mention it to Ken, he promptly underwrote it, although it had almost nothing directly to do with his kind of work! In the past ten years we were reunited as members of College Church, and every week I had the joy of seeing him again. I shall miss him keenly. Thank God for Ken Taylor and the legacy he has left behind.

How the Living Bible has affected me...
As a young child I felt drawn to read the Bible, but I didn't understand a word! I came to Christ at the age of 21 but still had a very hard time with understanding Scripture. THEN came the Living Letter to the Romans. I devoured it!!!I waited and waited for more Living Letters. "Once I was blind, now I could see." There are no words to express my gratitude to Dr.Taylor. In a way I was one of the kids he translated these precious words for.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
Ken helped me learn to write clearly. We worked together for several years on "The Church Around the World," and he taught me how to turn a clear phrase with a minimum of words. I'm grateful that I took the time last year to write him a "thank you" letter for that help and then to be able to say "thank you" in person last fall after a service at College Church. God bless Ken Taylor!

How the Living Bible has affected me...
My grandfather pastor gave my two brothers and me each a Living Bible when they first came out, and I still use mine these many years later when I want to be able to get into the meat of a passage. Dr. Taylor's wisdom will be sorely missed, but his legacy lives on, and for that I am truly grateful.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
My main memory of Dr. Taylor is the humility with which he carried himself. He always came out to the warehouses and talked with us and shook hands, thanking us for the job we were doing.
Dr. Taylor had every right, in the world's eyes, to be proud of all that he had accomplished in his life. Yet, he knew that it was God who had blessed his work and he remained humble and genuine with all of Tyndale's employees. I will miss that gentle man's walks through the warehouse. Thanks be to God for Dr. Taylor's example to us all.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
I had never read the bible, and someone suggested I buy the new Living Bible. I cannot tell you what a sacrifice spending $9.95 for the Bible really was. Oh, we were so poor. But once I started reading, I read things that I had never read before. Jesus knew how many hairs were on my head, and he told me not to worry about what I was going to wear or what I was going to feed my family! That was in 1973, and I learned that Jesus loved me enough to die for me! Wow! I prayed the sinner's prayer several times (just to make sure I got it right!). Today I can praise the Lord for not only saving me but my entire family! All because I could read the bible and understand it! Today I am rich (in the Lord)! TYJ for Dr. Taylor.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
Dr. Taylor was one of the most special men I have ever had the pleasure and honor of knowing. He, Mrs. Taylor, and my parents (Dwight and Jean Hooten), have been long-time friends, ever since my dad went to work for Tyndale House Publishers back in the 60s. He watched me grow up, and was an ever-encouraging presence in my family's life. I have so many special memories of him, all of them deeply treasured. The most special memory by far is the honor and privilege that my husband, Dan, and I had in having him officiate at our wedding in June, 1984. When our son was born, we gave him the honor of bearing the name Taylor as his middle name ... a beautiful name, rich with deep meaning for us. A name which truly sets the bar high!
I'll always treasure his sweet, tender smile, his loving hugs, and the way he always greeted me, using my nickname, Dodie.
I/We love you, Dr. Taylor.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
I had the opportunity to work at Tyndale for several years, and I count it a blessing to have met and interacted with Dr. Taylor. One of my fondest memories was when he and I went to visit the Doubletree as a possible location for the Christmas banquet. Oh, did his eyes light up when they gave us each a warm chocolate chip cookie! Thank you, Dr. Taylor, for modeling such a Christ-centered and humble heart.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
Dr. Taylor has blessed my life greatly. The Living Bible was the first Bible that I ever read. It was the easy and understandable reading that made me, a sixteen-year-old kid awaiting prison, realize that I was sinner and needed Christ. I was not only able to read it but also comprehend it. The first Christian book I read was by Dr. Kenneth Taylor (How To Grow). With help from a pastor I went through the book, and I learned how to walk as a Christian and what God wanted for me and from me. Lastly, after I was released from prison, I was blessed to get a job with Tyndale when no one else would hire me. I was able to see firsthand how a man of God would start, manage, and ultimately produce a successful company. I also observed a surrendered believer who was able to stay humble even in the midst of success, prosperity, and relative fame. As Paul was an example to the earlier believers, Dr. Taylor was and is one of my examples for today. I thank God for being so blessed by his life and work.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
In 1970, when I was 19 years old, I began to struggle with the whole idea of Christianity. Was this idea a reality, or had I been playing church all my life? I desparately needed clarity, because I wanted to move into my adult years with that piece of truth intact, whatever it might be. I was afraid I had bought the "Santa" story again, this time affecting my spiritual life, pursuits, goals, dreams. One night, in the darkness of my apartment bathroom, I prayed, "Lord, I don't know if You are really there or not. I need to know if I'm playing a game, so I can move on with my life. Here's what I will do! I will pick up that book we call Your book and begin reading, if You will come and meet me. You are God and I am not, so I need You to reach the farther distance. I will pick up that book You inspired and read until I run into You, or not." That "book" turned out to be The Living Bible - a paraphrase, and it helped to turn my life around and affect my entire future. It's 30-something years later, and I now help manage a Lifeway Christian Bookstore in Nashville, TN, and I still love The Living Bible. I still recommend it to new believers or those who are new to the Scriptures. It's the Great Love Story of my life. Thank you for letting me share this memory.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
It has been a awesome privilege to be a pastor in the same generation with Kenneth N. Taylor and Billy Graham. In 1996 The Living Bible in everyday English was superseded by the New Living Translation Bible, and again, last year it was updated and made even more “reader-study friendly” in the 2004 edition of the NLT.
“W-I-G-T-H”.... “When-I-Get-To-Heaven” I want to experience the joy of a “1 Corinthians 13:12 knowledge” of the ways God has used Ken Taylor. (“All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God knows me completely.” [NLT-2004]) I want to see how God answered Ken's prayers for believers all around the world. --- Thanks to God for inspiring Ken Taylor’s vision and commitment. How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
Dr. Taylor is such a respected man of God in the Christian publishing world. His spiritual authenticity was evident in his day-to-day work. I remember hearing as an employee of Tyndale that Dr. Taylor would walk around the building some evenings and pray for each employee by name. He would often walk through the halls during the day to talk to employees. He was an accessible leader. I remember a luncheon opportunity with him and his wife. Even though I was heading out to be with another publishing company, Dr. Taylor blessed me in my new venture. He spoke of God's faithfulness to him as he had worked with several different publishing avenues.
I know Dr. Taylor will be missed around the office and at book shows. He leaves a strong spiritual legacy behind. He is a wonderful role model for me and my generation.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
I recall first reading the paraphrased Bible. My parents had gotten copies of the early paperback editions, Living Epistles and Living Gospels. I would open the books up up and start reading, but then I would stop because they didn't sound like I thought the Bible should sound. What I read sounded too clear, too much like the English I spoke, to be a Bible, so I thought then.
When I was a child, I thought as a child. I did not immediately recognize the value of The Living Bible. Today I look back and thank God for the ministry The Living Bible had to millions of people. And I thank God even more for giving the world that humble man, Kenneth Taylor, who made the Bible more understandable for his own children, and then shared what he wrote with the rest of the world. His legacy lives on today through his Bible translation work, Tyndale House Publishers, and, yes, now even through myself.

How the Living Bible has affected me...
It's interesting that in recent years I've come to know Gretchen, Ken's daughter, at my home church in Grand Rapids. My Living Bible, "The Way," is still a prized posession of mine, receiving it from my grandmother when I was young. Now I know more of the history and passion behind the man who's desire it was to get a "readable" Bible in our hands and hearts.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
Dr. Taylor's life and work influenced the shape of my life at the age of 10. He asked my missionary parents to lead the project of printing The Living Bible in modern Hebrew right in Jerusalem. This project was the beginning of a lifetime of servanthood in the mission field. I've had tremendous opportunities to witness the power of God's Word in people's lives all over the world. And as a young person, The Living Bible brought God's Word to life for me. I am grateful for Dr. Taylor's obedience to God's call. Truly, there is rejoicing in Heaven for his arrival.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
Dr. Taylor was one of three co-founders of Cabrini Green Legal Aid Clinic, the organization which I am privileged to lead. Dr. Taylor arranged for Tyndale House Publishers to fund the first year and a half of services to make the vision for faith-based legal services in Chicago a reality. Because Dr. Taylor believed that justice and mercy on behalf of poor people was a scriptural mandate, literally thousands of individuals have been spared from eviction, homelessness, domestic violence and unjust convictions.
Dr. Taylor and Margaret have been faithful friends to CGLA over the course of our history. Although a great man has left us, his legacy remains vibrant and strong through CGLA's work on behalf of poor residents of Chicago.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
Loving greetings to the Taylor family from your former neighbors and Wheaton College Church members Dorothy Gemmel and her daughter Martha. We have many good memories of your family and consider it a privilege to have known Ken. I, Martha, remember him as a kind and gentle man, and as a child I looked up to him as one of the spiritually mature and stable men of our church. I know that my parents likewise considered him a good friend and mature Christian. My dad, whom all called 'Bud,' went to be with the Lord last December. My brother Dave also is with the Lord, as of November 2002. My mother, Dorothy, lives at Go Ye Village in Tahlequah OK. She is well, but does not have e-mail, so I am writing for both of us. She joins me in sending our loving condolonces and assurances that you all are in our prayers at this time. May you feel the Lord holding you close, and be your strength and peace.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
I am one of the many whose life was impacted by Dr. Taylor long before I knew who he was. My first Bible was one of the first editions of The Living Bible. (Just a couple of months ago, my husband was sorting through some of his childhood things and came across his first Bible, which was the very same one!) It is mind-boggling to wonder at the many generations who have been and will be touched by Dr. Taylor's vision and heart for God. I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to know him even a little bit. I remember sitting in his office numerous times as he reviewed with me his comments on kids' products I'd been working on, and I'll never forget the rounds he made throughout the building, just to keep in touch with employees and find out what we were working on. As I thought about his welcome into heaven, I couldn't help smiling as I pictured him stopping by God's office . . . just to see what He'd been working on.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
I never had the honor of meeting Dr. Taylor, but I was touched by his compassionate heart. Two years ago our oldest son underwent 2 major brain surgeries to relieve him of the seizures that had plagued his life for over 18 years. As a result of my relationship with Tyndale's John Johnson through my position at Christian Book Distributors, Shane was being regularly lifted up during your prayer sessions. John once shared with me how Dr. Taylor had stopped in in the hall one day and asked, "Have you heard how Shane is doing?" My wife and I were deeply moved that this man who had never met our son took such an interest in his well-being.
My wife Eva and I, along with Shane and the rest of our family, wish to extend our deepest sympathies to the Taylor and Tyndale families. We rejoice with you in knowing that Dr. Taylor is home with the Lord that he loved and so faithfully served.

How the Living Bible has affected me...
Were it not for the Living Bible, my dad may have never come to know the Lord personally. With little education and no opportunity to read the Bible as a child, he would read a portion of the Living Bible as an adult every night and eventually came to accept Christ as his saviour. I'm sure there are thousands of people who will have Dr. Taylor to thank when they join him "at home." I consider it a privilege to have spent a few minutes with Dr. Taylor at the spring sales conference to thank him personally. I will treasure those few moments.

How the Living Bible has affected me...
My parents gave me a copy of The Living Bible for my birthday when I was in the fourth grade and I loved it. I understood it...all by myself.
I remember when we were visiting relatives that next summer and went to church with my aunt and uncle. They attended a church that clung rather tightly to their KJV Bibles. The Sunday school teacher that morning excused me from reading when my turn came since I didn't have a "real" Bible. I was momentarily hurt, but not deeply.
What I found very interesting was the pastor's sermon that morning. He read from the KJV and then, verse by verse, went through the passage and explained it. Basically did verbal gymnastics and told the congregation that it meant exactly want I was READING IN MY COPY OF THE LIVING BIBLE. I wondered then how much more the pastor could teach if they all just started with the Bible I was using and he didn't have to explain it all to them.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
In 1963 my grandmother gave me a copy of the Billy Graham edition of Living Letters. This book ignited my passion for Bible reading. That passion continues to this day. In 1994 I shared this story with Ken and Margaret over dinner at my house in Colorado Springs. Ken signed the copy of Living Letters alongside the inscription by my grandmother. Thank you to all of the Taylors for continuing to make God's Word available and readable to people everywhere. It is exciting to know that Ken is now meeting so many people whose lives were changed for eternity as he is in heaven.
I will also continue to cherish the autographed copy of the first edition of the NLT that Ken presented to me several years ago.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
Dr. Taylor – when I think of you, three things immediately come to mind – your immense contribution to advancing God’s kingdom – your incredible generosity – and your witty sense of humor. //// Through your life example, you have taught me the true meaning of being a “humble servant.” Your company has single handedly made it possible for hundreds, if not thousands of people to serve the Lord through their vocation – and there’s no telling how many people in total your efforts have led to Christ! What a blessing it is to work in a publishing ministry where the focus is on the Lord, where we directly effect the spiritual needs of people through the work we do and the products we work on. I’m humbled by my opportunity to do this under your godly leadership – and wish I would have started working at Tyndale earlier in my career so I might have had the chance to know you better personally. But over the last couple years I have had a few chances to see how fun you are to work with, and how witty you are. Especially in chapel, where you always seem to be ready with a humorous comment that makes everyone laugh. I thank you for setting that bar, in terms of being effective in your job, but also having fun at the same time. //// Your contribution to God’s plan and your generosity towards all people, including those in your Tyndale family, leaves me speechless. It’s also amazing how many doors open and expressions soften when my wife and I tell them I work at Tyndale. Your reputation in the community and around the world precedes you, and the blessings the Lord has poured down on your company in return have been just as amazing. //// I wish you the most joy, love and happiness that you can pack into your life here on earth, and hope you’ll remember me when I see you in heaven – although I’m not certain God and his angels will allow me in that far. //// Barry A. Smith, Tyndale art director

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
The most vivid memory I have is of Dr. Taylor's prayer for me
back in 1971 when I was working two jobs, one was at Tyndale
House,He came in where I was working and prayed that I would
find something, shortly after that I was Hired on as a salesman
at Gospel Light.and in 1975 I came to Tyndale House and been
here for thirty years. His prayers never went unanswered. Behold,
a man in whom there is no guile. He will be missed, but his mantle rests on his son for whom I have deep respect

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
I remember Dr. Taylor as an incredibly humble man with a delightful sense of humor. As a Tyndale House employee I could always count on getting a cheerful greeting from this godly man who made it his business to know the people at the company he founded. Sometimes he would pass on practical “tips” to the employees, such as how good the hot chocolate in the company vending machine was or how a local restaurant offered a reasonably priced lunch. He was definitely not into creature comforts for himself, as he preferred to invest his life into things that would last for eternity. He knew what really mattered, and he didn’t waste his life. He will be greatly missed, but what he modeled with his life will not be forgotten.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
I have always been impressed by the obvious love and concern Dr. Taylor has shown for Tyndale House and those who work here. I have often seen Dr. Taylor visiting employees, attending chapel or stopping to talk to people in the hallway.
I had been at Tyndale House only two months when Dr. Taylor stopped by my cubicle to ask me what I was working on. I responded, "A Focus on the Family product called Drive Thru History." Dr. Taylor immediately asked me, "Is there a Christian perspective? That is most important." I was humbled by Dr. Taylor's visit, and proud to work for a man and an organization that continually works to spread the good news of the gospel. I will never forget that brief, but meaningful conversation I had with Dr. Taylor, it was a blessing.

It has been a great joy and blessing for us to have been part of his company and part of his dream. I learned a lot from the few moments I had with him. His desire for children to know about God and that Gods Word is spread everywhere demonstrated his great love and gratefulness he felt for his Lord. This has inspired me to continue struggling in the work of the Lord. Dr. Taylors departure saddens our hearts, but there is also great joy in the fact that he is now face to face with his Lord giving him honor and praise. I look forward to the day when I will be reunited with him so that together we can praise the Lord of lords. I pray that the Lord will comfort and provide peace to his family. May the Lord bless the Taylor family.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
I always felt a little uneasy in speaking to Ken Taylor although, he was as approachable as any man could ever be. Still, in fellowshiping with him, I could never seem to shake the feeling of, "I'm sitting here talking to the man who wrote the Bible!"
What is my greatest memory of Ken Taylor? Most men who know the Bible, talk about the Bible. It goes without saying, Ken knew his Bible, but what was so awesome about this man was this: Whenever you talked with Ken, he always talked about the Lord Jesus Christ. I can honestly say of all the men I ever knew who were students of the Scripture, Ken Taylor was the one man whose conversation was always the Lord Jesus Christ.
From the day I picked up Living Letters (and I was one of the first people to ever buy a copy) to the last time I ever spoke with you, you have had a profound affect upon my life just as you have profoundly affected the whole world.
But, as one who called you friend, this leper has back to thank you for all that you have meant to me. You gave me the Scripture as clear as fine crystal. But, in knowing you personally, you also gave me the Lord Jesus Christ.

How the Living Bible has affected me...
It was in 1975 when my mother, a new Christian herself, gave Living Bibles to me and my brother (both of us were married and young parents). I had tried to read the Bible before (King James, starting in Genesis), but when I picked up that Living Bible, "for some reason," I opened to Matthew. Over the months that I read the New Testament in the Living Bible, God began to work in my life through other books and through people as well. I found Christ as my Savior in February 1976.
It's hard to put into words what I felt when I had the privilege to meet Dr. Taylor after I'd signed to write books for Tyndale House. His paraphrased Bible, written for his own children, was used by God to bring me to Him, and I'm so grateful for Dr. Taylor's obedience and vision.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
I have many wonderful memories of "growing up" at the Taylor house. My favorite memory of Dr. Taylor (to me he was just Janet's dad) was having devotions with the family and having him paraphrase the Living Bible!! I was always lost! The Living Bible is still my Bible of preference. Visiting with Dr. and Mrs. Taylor as an adult was a wonderful gift to me. I was the little girl again visiting with a wonderful couple that I have loved and respected for many years. Love to the family. BJ

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
I recently joined the Tyndale team, and sadly, I was never able to meet Dr. Taylor. However, in my brief time at Tyndale, I have sensed a small part of the enormous impact Dr. Taylor had on Earth for the kingdom of God. I am honored and humbled to be a part of something that God established though Dr. Taylor. As I have heard people mention here often, Dr. Taylor referred to this as God's company. I am truly grateful to Dr. Taylor for his dedication, passion and humble effort to get God's word into the hands and hearts of so many people. May God continue to use Tyndale in a mighty and powerful way. To God be the glory for Dr. Taylor's life!

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
For 27 years it has been my priviledge to work with Ken. Ken was a person full of ideas but they always centered on making God's word easily available to people. Even though he owned Tyndale House Publishers he always believed that it belonged to the Lord. In the good years when the Lord prospered the work of Tyndale the profits didn't go to Ken and Margaret but to the Foundation because after all the company belonged to the Lord. Ken's joy came in pouring himself into his work. At 88 years old he was still coming to the office working full time until just two months ago. It wasn't work to him it was his calling. And because of his work on the Living Bible, The New Living Translation, and numerous books the impact of his work will not stop with his death because these products will continue to touch hearts for generations to come.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
As a part of the NLT translation team for the last 18 years, Ken Taylor has been an extraordinary model both as a communicator with the goal of making the Scriptures clear and understandable to the youngest reader and as a devoted and humble Christian husband and father.
Although I grew up on the RSV, it was the Living Bible that brought the Scriptures to life for me as a college student working with the Cleveland Billy Graham Crusade and the Rochester NY Leighton Ford Crusade. It was a privilege to be able to give people door-to-door in Cleveland's inner city the Gospel of John and know that it would speak to them whatever their situation. The first person I led to the Lord was while reading together from the Living Bible. My brother and two nephews came to Christ at the Portland Crusade, again with the Living Bible in hand.
Ken will be dearly missed as a model of "God's masterpiece . . . created anew in Christ Jesus, so that we can do the good things he planned for us long ago" (NLT Ephesians 2:10).

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
Seeing Mr. Taylor week in and week out at College Church was a great privilege, because of the fragrance of his life, and his devotion to God and His word. In these later years, he displayed a quiet but powerful testimony to God's faithfulness, and the witness of one who was faithful to God. His passion to make the Bible understood is an enduring gift to the church.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
I worked at Tyndale House Publishers back in 1980. I had a friend for whom I was burdened and one day I took a prayer request about him directly to Dr. Taylor who welcomed me warmly into his office. After sharing my request he taught me a very important lesson: "Okay, now you must pray about something for me..." he said, and taught me to share that way, entering into others' needs, not thinking just about my own. I loved and respected Dr. Taylor very much. His humility was a great strength to me. I bless the Lord for this servant. Thank you for the opportunity to share in his memory. May God multiply the much fruit of his ministry until we are all rejoicing in Christ's presence together.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
I joined Tyndale House a little over a year ago, in the middle of my family's year-long struggle with my husband's unemployment. From the very beginning, I found support and encouragement from the Tyndale family, and Dr. Taylor was the cornerstone of that support. He was genuinely concerned for our family, and he prayed with me several times, asking for God's continued guidance and provision. Whether we walked together after chapel or I visited him in his office, he always wanted to know how we were doing and ask about our children. Consequently, Dr. Taylor touched our entire family. Our youngest son was reading "Everything A Child Should Know About God" one evening when he said, "Dr. Taylor did a really great job writing this book!" Dr. Taylor loved hearing that the next day! Even though I knew him for only one year, Dr. Taylor has touched my life immeasureably. I am so thankful for the godly example he set and the godly company he founded, where my husband and I are now both employed. He was like a grandfather to both of us, and we will miss him deeply.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
I had the honor to work at Tyndale House before and during the days the Living Bible has first released. I can remember Dr Taylor stopping by my desk each week and asking me what he could pray about with me and then sharing something I could pray with him about.
I have always been thankful my first exposure to Christian Literature distribution was at Tyndale House. We always knew whatever job we were asked to do (sales, customer service shipping, credit or whatever) it was to help distribute God's word. So many lives were changed because people were able to pick up and read the Bible and understand it for the very first time.
After the release of the full Bible, Dr Taylor came by my desk nearly everyday for over and year and a half to see if bookstores were wanting to return the Living Bibles yet. What a pleasure it was for me to work with this humble man whom God used to make His Word come alive for so many people. Wow! What a team we had at the time, Harold Shaw, Wendell Hawley, Bob Hawkins, Gene White and of course Margaret to name just a few....I was surely blessed to be a part of such a great mission!

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
I had the great privilge of working with Dr. Taylor from 1973 till 1992 travelling the world with him and developing the Living Bibles program in Asia. When we dedicated the Nepali Living NT. one of the leaders spoke with great emotion and said:"Thank you Dr. Taylor you and your staff have opened the gates of heaven for the Nepali people with this new living translation and we will be forever grateful to God."
Through the ministry of Living Bibles Internation over 65 nations and peoples experienced the same miracle.
Now a vast host of people who found Christ through these Living Bibles will rise up and call him blessed! To God be the glory!
With profound appreciation and thanksgiving,
Dr. Garth Hunt,
Founder of Living Bibles Intl. of Canada and
WorldServe Ministries.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
When Nancy and I were teaching conversational English in Japan 33 years ago, I asked the manager of a Bible bookstore in Tokyo if he could recommend a publisher for employment. He said that if he could choose someone to work for, it would be Ken Taylor. I recalled how my copy of Living Letters helped me to grasp the Gospel as a teenager and so my heart was prepared for being hired at Tyndale as their first staff artist. It has been my honor to work there for 32 years. It was the emotive language of the Living Bible that inspired me to make my word pictures of scripture which became my first book Doorposts and it was Tyndale that took the risk of publishing it. So I am greatly indebted to Dr. Taylor.

How Dr. Taylor's life has affected me...
The last time I saw Dr. Taylor, he was getting on the elevator on the first floor at Tyndale House. I identified myself (in a louder than usual voice). "I know who you are, Lucille," he said with a twinkle in his eye, rebuking me gently for underestimating his cognitive abilities. We both laughed. It is good to be recognized. We know the Lord recognized Dr. Taylor when he stepped beyond our realm. What a beautiful day for him!
